The CL Hawks redeemed their only loss of the season when they had a 7 run 4th inning that helped bolster their first win in the tournament against the host, Medina Valley, 7-1.

               Let’s Go Hawks!!

This game was a pitcher’s dual through the first 3 innings as both teams were having trouble getting players on base.

That was when a 4th inning barrage was unleashed with hits and walks in scoring all their runs needed in this win.

Twelve batters came to the plate as MV had to bring 3 pitchers to the mound in trying to stop the bleeding.

“It was a good win for our program,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said. “I had stated earlier that hitting can be contagious and this was a good example. We strung together a few hits and scored all our runs in one inning. We had several of our runs with 2 outs.”

On how well the pitching is doing, Coach Escamilla was quick with a response, “Tanner (Schultz) was his old self and there are signs of getting better in the hitting department. Matt (Anderson) came in and closed them out.”

A few hits turned out to be 7 singles and two walks in this frame with 4 out of the first five Hawks getting on base via the hit variety. After the 2nd out, CL responded with two consecutive walks and then 3 more singles putting a bow on this win as the Hawks literally ‘ran’ their record to, 6-1 with two more games on the docket tomorrow starting at 10 am.

             Let’s Go Hawks!!

Schultz gave up one earned run giving him a 0.50 earned run average with 16 strikeouts and one walk. It was the 7th win which is inching up past several past Hawks.

Medina Valley did respond with that one score in the bottom of that same 4th inning with 2 base hits and one hit batter but the damage was minimal after Schultz struck out the final two players to close this inning with a commanding 7-1 lead.

The Lake has had 4 years of double digit wins with the past two seasons comprising half with 15 wins being the top year back during the 2010 season. That group of players were able to go two rounds in the playoffs and just missing by 2 runs of going deeper into the post-season.

Canyon Lake will be scheduled for two games at 10am and 12:45pm tomorrow and another chance of making it to a Championship Tournament contest.

Way to Go Hawks!!
