CL Hawks JV on a Mission in Win Over Jourdanton, 49-12

CL Hawks Defense was in step in win over Jourdanton JV, 49-12.

Canyon Lake JV scored big, in 49-12 win, over Jourdanton Indians.

This will be deja-vu all over again after a first half that would remind those Hawk fans that their 3 scoring drives took a total of 8 plays that averaged right at 23 yards per snap. Bringing back memories of past pastings handed out by this group of players.

              Way To Go Hawks!!

Explosive plays blew this Jourdanton Indian’s smoke signals for more help unreadable and Hawk touchdowns would become a thing of beauty.

Only one pass, but QB Coby Mickey made it count when he found a streaking AJ Acosta for a 53 yard touchdown right before halftime.

“I was taking it down,” Acosta stated. “We (Coby Mickey and Acosta) are 4 for 4 on that play this year and it came like a dime a dozen and that is hard to find.”

First Score: A River Hand 41 yard run.
Second Score: Had a Bade Holland 36 yard run.
Third Score: A perfect pass from Coby Mickey to AJ Acosta for 53 yards.
Fourth Score: Tyler Balderas covered 52 yards in 3 seconds. (Not really but it was fast.)
Fifth Score: An Alex Mejia 1 yard run. Not long but a classic Hawk drive that covered 78 yards on 13 plays.
Sixth Score: Had Reid Simpson with a 45 yard run in dramatic fashion.
Seventh Score: Tyler Balderas finished this game with a 65 yard kick-off return in 5 seconds. (Just say that Jourdanton would not have tackled Balderas if this game would have been a, ‘one below’ contest.)

Meanwhile CL’s defense was controlling the line of scrimmage in allowing just 28 yards on the ground with 27 carries.

Defensive Lineman, Griffen Williams was one of many Hawks to take of residence on the Indians side of the ball, “We had a lot of team communication and we just kept pumping each other up saying we could do it!”

AJ Acosta and Griffen Williams smiling big after win over Jourdanton.

Jourdanton did finish with 178 yards via the air routes, but 97 of those passing yards happened with 4 minutes left in regulation, with a Hawk, 42-6 lead.

So a dominating affair from the ground/air/special teams that would remind Canyon Lake’s fans of those previous years of dominance from this crew of players.

CLJV ran their record to 3-1 after a surprising first game loss to Wimberley. It was the same scenario last season with one loss during the beginning of the season as this team when they were Freshman ran the table for a district championship.

Jourdanton started this game with a 13 yard run and had that same number of yards on their last running play to end this contest. Both runs gave the Indians 26 yards on the ground while all those other running plays garnered 2 yards total.

A dominating defense that certainly had more plays than the offensive side of the ball and giving up a pass and run play near the end of the game for 81 yards that just so happened to be the total passing yards up to that point in this game for Jourdanton.

The Hawks did have one drive that was a vintage slot-t set of plays. CL traveled 78 yards on 13 plays that had Alex Mejia with the honors for the score.

Signature Homes says, Go Hawks!

But, just like that, The Lake went back to business as usual with a 2 play drive with Reid Simpson scoring from 45 yards and then icing on the cake, when Tyler Balderas returned a kick-off 65 yards for the final score, 49-12.

On how this team will continue this season? Acosta was quick with a response, “That season opening loss messed us up and left a bad taste in our mouths and we won’t forget that taste.”

Williams chimed in, “A loss that close stayed with us that whole week and we have a mission to not let that happen again.”

A team on a mission that will have an off week and then back to action with a district slate and another quest for a district championship for the 4th consecutive year starting as 7th Graders at Mountain Valley Middle School.

Way to Go Hawks!!
