MVMS 7B’s Defense Takes Control in Win over Danville, 32-0
All eyes on Coach Burger after dominating Danville, 32-0.
Mountain Valley’s 7th grade B team kept their undefeated season in tact after whitewashing the Danville Wolves and holding their opponent to under 100 yards of offense while reeling off 32 points.

The Hawks had a chance to draw first blood and carried that assignment out in driving 63 yards on 4 plays for their score and lead that would never be relinquished after Reese Pipkin scored on a one yard plunge up the middle and MV lead, 8-0.
This drive started with a Lucas Schexnayder 40 yard run on the first play that set the tone for this whitewash and keeping the Hawk’s undefeated season in order.
That would be the extent of either offense in that first half. In fact, it was the MV’s defense that would get points on the board in the 2nd quarter by forcing a safety.
Danville’s offense had 4 consecutive plays of negative yards with that last snap being an over the head of a Wolves punter resulting in that safety.
With a, 10-0 halftime lead, Mountain Valley would come out in that 3rd stanza on fire in scoring on all three possessions. The damage only required 6 offensive plays with a Schexnayder 35 yard run to open the quarter and 18 point lead.
“I just love that first carry (for 40 yards) which showed what we are made of,” Schexnayder stated. “Coach told us to go to the outside and I knew our team would be there.”
On what the coaches talked about at halftime? “Stay in the game and try to force more turnovers.”

Words that came to fruition as this Wolf team fumbled on their 2nd play to start the 2nd half that gave MVMS a chance for the quick score and 18 point lead.
Danville used 8 plays in response to the Hawk’s score but 6 of those plays gained 1 or less yardage. It was a fake punt that went 28 yards that garnered the only damage after the Hawks defense stopped Danville cold.
This time it was a two play 72 yard drive that had Gavin Baldera taking the rock for 54 yards and what would be a running clock to finish this game, 24-0.
MV’s defense kept up their dominance on that next series of downs. Next man up was Tristan Alexander with the honors in seeing his impressive speed on a jet sweep for 49 yards and seconds later a final 32 point win.
Danville finished with 61 total yards of offense which had 28 of those yards coming after the game was in the bag.
Eduardo Flores was one of many Mountain Valley defensive lineman that were instrumental in shutting down their opponent. Flores showed off his wrestling moves on one of those plays where he threw a Wolf running back like a sack of potatoes and a 5 yard loss.

“When I got in I just wanted to play and I was kinda mad and their running back found that out,” Flores said with resolve.
On what Flores hopes as this season continues, “We want to finish district in first place.”
JR Lindell was another Hawk defensive player that showed his run support skills coming from the defensive backfield on another play that went for negative yards for these visitors.
“I saw the ball going to the part of the field that I did not want them to have success,” Lindell contemplated. “I had the perfect angle.”
On thoughts for the season? “We are ready to prove that we can finish first!”
Danville had 32 offensive plays and MV’s defense was dominant and had 24 of those plays gaining 1 yard or less with 11 snaps finishing behind the line of scrimmage.
With 3 games in the books, this Hawk defense has allowed 4 points per game and if that can continues then it would be a good recipe for more smiles on Hawk fans’ faces on their car ride home.
