CL Hawk JV On Doorstep for Championship in Win over Badgers, 41-19

Hawks prepare for after final first down to run out the clock in win over Lampasas JV, 41-19

Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity are now in position to finish their 4th year in a row with a district championship after a convincing victory over Lampasas, 41-19.

“I thought we responded to adversity very well and much better than we did the last time we were on the road,” Coach Bret Hodges said. “We know teams are going to give us their best shot since we are leading the district and Lampasas was no different. Our guys finished the game strong and will need to finish the season strong to accomplish the goals we have in place.”

World’s Finest say Hawks are Too!

Coach Hodges was not finished, “Our fans/parents did a great job traveling and encouraging our players. There’s not doubt that type of support influences our young athlete’s attitudes and performances. It is much appreciated.”

The Hawks doubled the yardage category and the score followed in suit as the Hawks kept the pressure on during the whole contest.

Tyler Balderas continues to show off his speed in rushing after a 216 yard game that averaged right at 15 yards per carry.

That was evident in the second half after a nondescript 36 yards during the first 20 minutes of action. With just one 10 yard run that completed that first half touchdown.

The second stanza was impressive with explosive plays for Balderas:

Balderas’ Second Half Exploits:
57 yard run on 2nd play of half for a touchdown.
47 yard run on next possession.
25 & 15 yard runs to go with Balderas on the Hawk’s 3rd possession.
20 yard run for touchdown on 4th possession.
Finished with 180 yards of dominance to complete the evening.

Ethan Schedlbauer had a decent 67 yards that was highlighted by a 55 yard run for a score to open the game with a bang. A penalty kept Schedlbauer from another 78 yard run and score in that second half. That run had a great cut back against the grain for a run that would not count.

More Hawk rushers were recipients of the Hawks Offensive Line opening holes like they were working in a donut shop.

Offensive Lineman Gabriel Geving and Andrew Miller helped in amassing 400 rushing yards.

“We had slacked off in that first half but we found our offense in the second,” Offensive Lineman Gabriel Geving opined. “It feels good to know we have each others back.”

On what it means for a chance to win the 4th consecutive district championship starting back during those Mountain Valley seasons, “It feels good to win, but it takes a lot of hard work and we have a talented group.”

You think? This class had 9 players promoted to varsity this year with others like (Ty Sellers) who decided to concentrate on other sports (Basketball & Baseball) that put this team on an island entering this year.

“We are our own team and we all just stepped up,” Andrew Miller surmised when asked bout another chance to put another award in the trophy case. “We were just firing from the line of scrimmage and we were able to communicate to make adjustments.”

    Go Hawks!!

“It will be amazing to win another championship after losing so many on our team this year to varsity,” Miller said with resolve.

Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity will finish their season this next week when Burnet Bulldogs come to the Hawk Nest on Thursday with the game commencing after the Freshman team wins.

Good time to come out and see the future for Canyon Lake’s Football team.

Go Hawks!!
