Night & Day Difference in Hawk JV Win Over Billies, 42-29

It was night and day difference between last week’s preview CLJV/FJV (21-21 tie) clash compared to this same matchup a week later at the Hawk Nest. A final that had The Lake cruising to a, 42-29 win.
“We definitely felt like we had some unfinished business to take care of,” JV Coach Bret Hodges stated. “Fredericksburg is a good, physical football team but we didn’t play very well last week and were fortunate to come out of that game with a tie. This week was much different with respect to our performance on both sides of the ball.”

The Billies started this contest just like last week after taking just 4 plays to score and covered 78 yards for that opening salvo. In fact, Freddie had 4 plays and 4 first downs with that last run covering 43 yards and a quick lead.
Then CLJV would score 35 straight points before the Billies would get their next score in the fourth period. Good offense and defense during that stretch was a result of hard work this week in preparation.
“Our defense played well and had some big stops but I was most impressed with how well our offense executed and finished drives. That helped our defense by keeping Fred’s offense off the field.”
You would have to be talking “balderdash” if you think this was the same two teams as Tyler Balderas-dash had the Billies talking more than gibberish exclaims after the visitors could not stop this Hawk who scored twice and finished with 186 yards on the ground with a 17 yard per carry average.
“Last week we did not have as much time to learn their defense and tonight we came in being more prepared,” Balderas said in succinct verbiage. “Tonight we were more prepared.”
Opening holes in this battle for the offense was in the hands of the lineman and Kole Hedemann was one of those battle tested players for Canyon Lake.
Kole Hedemann was one of many Offensive Lineman that opened gaping holes in win.
“We had worked on our snap count and we were ready,” Hedemann said in response to the difference between the two weeks. “Hard work and staying disciplined helped but we knew this would be a battle and we just worked harder and we were everywhere.”
Those 4 plays on Fredericksburg’s possession took only 3 plays for Canyon Lake to return the favor with 21 yards coming from Ethan Schedlbauer’s two carries that was followed with a 47 yard score from Balderas-dash.
After a defensive stop, the Hawks, had a 4 play drive that started with a Balderas-dash 40 yard dash followed by a 43 yard pass from QB Sam Zinn to AJ Acosta for a lead that The Lake would not relinquish on this night and day game, 13-7.
Another Hawk defensive stop had CL using a one play drive going 69 yards by, you guessed it, Balderas-dash who now could hear gibberish being uttered by the Freddie coaches and defense.
Canyon Lake would come out of their halftime talk with a 71 yard drive using 11 plays for a lead that put a nail in that proverbial coffin. The scoring play? A 20 yard Zinn to Bade Holland pass and commanding, 28-7 lead.

“We focused and just played,” Zinn said. “We just had to be sure that we did not mess up and after last week we focused on taking away what they had done on offense and defense.”
CL had improved their offense from their 230 yard output last week to a much more dominating doubling of that showing with 462 yards that resulted in doubling the amount of points scored.
Fredericksburg would fumble away any other opportunity to get back into the game on their next possession and that had the Hawk’s, response team, ready to scoot 70 yards with River Hand and Holland being the heavy lifters and another score when Hand was not welcoming to the Billies with his 13 yard touchdown run and 28 point lead with 6 minutes of action left, going into the night and day game.
Holland would finish the scoring on CL’s next drive when the Hawks used two explosive plays by Holland going 30 yards and scoring from 10 yards out.
“We were just more physical and we whipped their butt,” Holland said without using a dictionary. “I just got the blocks I needed.”
Sam Zinn, Tyler Banderas and Bade Holland had their way with the Billies.
Night and Day difference that had Fredericksburg talking gibberish after being gashed with 399 yards of rushing and two scoring pass plays for flavoring in this wipe-out.
CLJV will continue their quest for a district championship next week traveling to Lampasas to battle the Badgers.
The Hawks might like to stay in the daytime atmosphere as they continue to make opponents with balderdash statements!!
