Homecoming week will be a tough cookie this year when state ranked Lampasas invades the Hawk Nest in a pre-Halloween match-up this Friday.
For the last 4 years there has been one constant for Lampasas and that is Quarterback Ace Whitehead. This 4 year starter has helped compile a sparkling 27-7 record over these past 3 years.
Last season, the Badgers, were at the front door of making the final 4 before a set back at the hands of Carthage.
To say the least, this will be the toughest contest on CL’s schedule this year as this will be just the 3rd home game during this crazy corona season.
The Lamps and Hawks have two teams that can be compared with Wimberley and Austin LBJ having that honor.
Canyon Lake lost to both schools where the Badgers came out of those two battles as the winner.
Whitehead will be, a pick your poison, quarterback that will beat you by his arm or legs. Averaging 162 passing yardage and 118 yards by rushing for a combined, 280 yards this season. Need a punter or kicker? Whitehead is your go to player.
On the ground game, Lampasas has Senior Jack Jerome as their leading rusher by 11 yards over Whitehead.
Michael Murray (26 catches for 400 yards) and Lane Haviland (27 catches for 386 yards) are the go to receivers giving the Hawk defense with 4 legit weapons on any given play from the Badgers.
It might be the Badger’s defense that could be the biggest hurdle in this game with 4 teams that could not reach 20 points scored this season
There is hope however in that Canyon Lake was able to hold the Austin LBJ’s offense too one less touchdown but a Hawk offense will be imperative to control the clock with that slot-t weapon in hopes of giving the home team a chance to pull off an upset over this powerful Lampasas squad.
Injuries have left CL short handed for much of this season and with each passing (running) week the Hawks have added a player back to the roster.
A Homecoming night that was postponed two weeks ago when Taylor had to postpone the contest due to Corona-19 issues.
Should be a good battle and Go Hawks!!
