Canyon Lake just missed a win opportunity after a Tyler Pauly drive to the basket with time running out. The shot rolled right instead of left leaving the Hawks comeback just short of the mark in a, 73-72 loss to Floresville last Friday night.

Canyon City Grill says Go Hawks!

“We couldn’t set any better in shooting our last shot,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman stated. “We are still trying to figure out where and who we will be doing our late game rotation.”

The Hawks have gone up tempo this year and with a chaos attitude on the court being a must for chances of some quick points. This type of game requires non-stop energy and substitutions are frequent to help keep the team fresh.

“We have to get in shape to play like this,” Coach Chapman closed. “Our mindset has to be there as we work to pace ourselves every 1:15 of the game.”

The Tigers were able to take the reins in that second period after stretching their advantage to 12 points, 45-33 with 27 seconds before halftime. That lead was cut to 9 at the buzzard on a Chase Anderson 3 pointer with 2 seconds before the horn.

The Lake were able to get their first lead since their first quarter one point advantage with a Pauly shot with an assist from Colton Winters that had the Hawks with a, 72-70 lead with 19 seconds remaining.

Floresville took that lead and game back 15 seconds later on a 3 pointer giving the Visitors a one point lead and win, 73-72.

That was when that last chance for a win transpired with a Pauly drive the court for one last chance to pull out a win. The ball just fell off the side of the rim as time sounded to end this battle.

Winters led the Hawks scoring 17 points with Pauly (13) and Tuff Cantu (10) reached the double digit scoring.

Pauly (128) had 8 assists which continued his march for the all-time assist lead chasing Doug Hubnik who finished with 187 back in 2012.

    Go Hawks!!

Shooting was not a problem for CL getting off 87 shots from the floor with 53 of those beyond the arc. Those percentages help dampen a chance for taking this game.

Canyon Lake will be back in action on Tuesday in Luling with their game starting after the Hawk Green team around 7:30pm.

As always, Let’s Go Hawks!!
