The Hawks Junior Varsity recouped from their loss in overtime to Burnet last week with a blistering 22 point 3rd quarter that helped CLJV forge a chaotic 14 point win, 56-42.

There has been a lot of moving parts with players and this edition of the Hawks JV had some players brought down from varsity helping on both sides of the court.

World’s Finest say Hawks are Too!

“Our press and effort on the press just wore them down,” Head Junior Varsity Coach Ryan Garney stated. “We were able to have an organized chaos and not just chaos.”

That last statement was certainly what happened during a stretch in that 3rd quarter when CLJV was able to increase a, 34-27 game to game clinching, 46-30 lead to end that period.

Steals and lay-ups started happening with reckless abandon with 2:20 left in the 3rd quarter and that last 1:35 was organized chaos and a more comfortable 16 point lead heading to the final period.

That swath of points had Mario Aguilar with two buckets, Brock Coburn with two buckets and Tyler Balderas 3 pointer for good measure. During that maddening time period Landon McLaughlin and Aguilar contributed 4 steals that contributed to a wild finish to what turned out to be dominating quarter.

CL was only up 4 points going into halftime talks and that lead was highlighted when Freshman Luke Moses threw up a prayer from right inside the half-court line that saw nothing but net and that 4 point advantage.

Hunter Anderson made his presence known sinking 5 of 10 three pointers and finishing with 19 points as this player was one of those varsity players to start the year making a big impact and a catalyst for this victory.

“It’s the hair,” Hunter Anderson said while wearing a bald head that needs some sun to get a decent tan. “We were just having a lot of fun and we played hard.”

On what the difference between playing varsity compared to JV? “I just tried to slow down and we were able to play our pace.”

Coburn was the next highest scorer on this night with 8 points followed by Freshman Mario Aguilar with 7 points.

Canyon Lake had 9 different players in the scoring column and getting a steal from that, ever chaotic press, would keep the pressure on a Llano club that needed more reinforcement to stay up with The Lake.

CLJV will be back in action this Friday in Marion and hopefully some more organized chaos will accompany this team after they get off the bus for another win.

Way to Go Hawks!!
