Hawk Boy’s Freshman Still a Work in Progress after Loss to Marion, 48-34

CL Hawk Freshman prepare after quarter strategy.

The Hawk Freshman continue their climb but still came up short in loss to Marion, 48-34 last Friday night.

This has been a work in progress for this group of players but seeing how each game brings a more easiness in applying the press will pay benefits as this season continues.

               Let’s Go Hawks!!

“It takes a while for us to get started,” Head Freshman Coach Almanza stated. “We still don’t have the confidence yet and it will continue to take time.”

There will be a different format for this team starting this week with the Freshman meshing with the Junior Varsity to form a Green & Gold teams. This format should help many of the freshman to learn with older more experienced players and will help in showing some wins after the end of the day.

In this contest with Marion, CL started with a competitive first period with a workable 2 point deficit. Then that 2nd quarter had the Bulldogs taking advantage and getting separation with a 12 point advantage entering halftime, 24-12.

CL had their best stanza to start the second half outscoring the home team, 15-12.

During this spark, Duncan Kelley had an old fashion 3 point play that involves a free throw and contributed with 5 rebounds an assist and steal.

Duncan Kelley is all smiles when thinking of the future of upcoming games.

“We played with more control and harder,” Kelley said when responding to how the team played in the 2nd half. “We need a better chemistry and continue to work on our offense and defense….but we are having a better reliability to know where everybody will be on the floor.”

The Lake’s press was in top form with 24 steals and grabbing 42 total rebounds. With 11 Hawks scoring and all but one Hawk with a rebound. Kameron Scriber led in that category with 11 bounds with Kelley ending with 9 for the contest.

Gabe Gibbons led the team with 5 steals joining 8 more Hawk’s in the theft department.

Canyon Lake will take the floor this Friday when Lockhart comes to the Hawk Nest with tip-off at 5:00 pm.

Way to Go Hawks!!
