Lady Hawks Beat SA Fox Tech as they Prepare for their District Slate, 40-20

CL Hawks Defense in Action for Win against Fox Tech.

The Canyon Lake Lady Hawks were able to double up Fox Tech, 40-20 before District 28-4A starts next week in Wimberley.

Let’s Go Hawks and Hit’em Hard

A needed win for sure as these past two games has shown a stark improvement for the Hawks coming out of their Christmas break.

“It has been a confidence issue,” Head Coach Zach Burleson stated. “We have some positive things these past two games and it all comes down to a frame of mind. This Christmas schedule was perfect timing.”

Coach Burleson continued, “We have some more hurdles to clear and we need to focus to not just sit there but to continue the race.”

The Hawks started on fire against the Techsters and to put it more succinctly, Kylie Rust scored 9 of her 12 points during this period that helped jettisoned the confidence that Coach Burleson alluded to in his quotes above.

When asked what Rust had for breakfast, “Breakfast tacos.” Were they hot? “Yes they were hot!”

That might be the secret for this player to adhere to as the season continues.

Kylie Rust stayed Hot after a Hot Taco Breakfast with 12 points.

“Coach gave us some encouraging words after our game yesterday,” Rust said in recalling their loss to a very good Geneva team that had CL in the game until the final horn. “That helped bring out our intensity and that showed. Yesterday taught us that we need to learn to slow it down more and that can get us more offense and score more points.”

On what Rust’s hopes are as district starts up next week, “I am hoping we can keep working on our team work and work on the board (getting rebounds) and keep working on our strengths and weaknesses.”

The Lake had their second game in committing 11 turnovers which is a stark difference of those over 30 turnovers games played to start this season.

Kaitlyn Cox had her second consecutive double digit scoring contest with a 10 point output coupled with 6 rebounds.

Allysia Menchaca had her best rebounding game corralling 8 for her efforts.

Consistency will be a key factor as district starts as their will be a magnifying glass starting on Tuesday what will be good or bad thing based on those lessons learned during this pre-district schedule.

A very tough district but a doable chance if Canyon Lake can continue to play solid defense and good ball control.

Congrats and way to Go Hawks!!
