Lady Hawks Stay in Tune in Loss to Geneva Eagles, 42-28

Kaitlyn Cox and Sofia George play great defense as CL held Geneva to 42 points.

Canyon Lake Lady Hawks had their best game this year after holding the Geneva Eagles to their lowest output of offense since losing their opening game of the season. Since that time Geneva has now reeled of 7 consecutive wins, 42-28.

           Let’s Go Hawks!!

“We are playing well,” Head Coach Zach Burleson assessed. “We are improving and this is a process and we know we will hit road blocks.”

Those road blocks have come in bunches this season with a team that would qualify as a Junior Varsity for most schools.

“Today we were playing a good quality team,” Coach Burleson closed. “When you can tell me that we had under 20 turnovers then that is music to me ears.”

That music was certainly in key as the Hawks did not miss many notes but with experience this will be a team not missing many shots in the future with practice-practice-practice.

The Hawks were efficient in breaking the press and only committing 17 turnovers and within striking distance throughout the contest with the Eagles largest lead coming from a prayer beyond the arc as the horn was sounding with resulting in this 14 point final deficit.

Kaitlyn Cox led Canyon Lake with 9 points in game with Geneva.

After starting the game spotting Geneva with 6 straight points, Canyon Lake closed out that first period matching this high powered offense with 7 points a piece.

Kaitlyn Cox (4 points) and Sofia George (3 points) helped on that offensive output that kept this game within reach, 13-7 first quarter finish.

On what the difference would be when comparing this game to those first games to start the season, Cox gave her thoughts, “We have come together and we have started to blend better on the basketball court. We have been practicing on not turning it over and we have become more comfortable and started trusting each other.”

Cox was part of the Senior laden team from last season that had those ladies running this same offense and knowing every facet that allowed them to get CL over the .500 win percentage.

Sofia George is one of many underclassman on this year’s Lady Hawk’s Basketball team.

“We have improved a lot,” George said. “We are a new and young team and we are learning to work with each other. We do whatever comes to us and Coach (Burleson) tells us when we are open then shoot.”

George has done a good job in that department so far as she leads the team in made shots beyond the arc.

That is a wise coach since the only way a team can score is by shooting the ball.

Canyon Lake will be back in action tomorrow at home when San Antonio Fox Tech comes to the Hawk Nest for another early tip-off (10am) and a chance to get a win which would qualify as not only music but an orchestra that has all the instruments.

Way to Go Hawks!!
