A look into the Spring sports season with playoff implications that would also involve each Hawk Basketball team.

           Way To Go Hawks!!

During the past few years, The Lake, has had their first round of Bi-District contests coming from a Hondo/Devine area but this coming 2021 year will be a different group of schools to match-up with for the Bi-District or first round of playoffs.

Canyon Lake is perched in the District 28-4A group of schools that has some old foes with one newcomer.

Boerne, Fredericksburg, Bandera and Wimberley will be those familiar teams with an addition of a newcomer being Davenport (the new school) that resides in Comal ISD.

As has been the case for the past 8-10 years the top 4 schools have been able to qualify for post-season play. That will not change but that first round of games will have some new schools in play.

District 26-4A will have just four schools and that makes all those teams eligible regardless of how they end district play. Being a first seed could very well have that first playoff game against a winless school as far their finish in district.

For Basketball the Girls have been working on getting to know each teammate compared to the team last year that had 3 to 4 girls at the top of each All-Time Category from points scored on down the line.

                Let’s Go Hawks!!

This season has two seniors and two juniors with the rest as Freshman and Sophomores. That was the case with last year’s Seniors with those ladies playing varsity for 3 and 4 seasons.

This is all to say that Canyon Lake will need to improve a lot in order to order playoff t-shirts.

Fredericksburg (15-1) and Boerne (11-2) will be battling it out for those first two seeds with Bandera (8-4) and Wimberley (6-9) looking to lock-up the final two spots.

Canyon Lake and Davenport (0-8) will have an uphill battle to take one of those spots. The Lake will start district this week in Wimberley which of the 4 schools mentioned above having the best potential to wrestle a win.

On the Boys side of things the recent loss to Comfort showed that this group will be in an uphill battle of their own.

Comfort beat Davenport by 3 points (59-56) earlier this year while Bandera won their game against their neighbors, 62-55. For comparison’s sake, Canyon Lake was not all there in their recent loss to Comfort, 67-44.

              Let’s Go Hawks

The eye test will need some sunglasses for this Hawk team as they will have the same two perennial powerhouses, Fredericksburg (11-1) and Boerne (11-1) at the top of the food chain.

Davenport has crafted a decent 3-5 season while Bandera sports a 7-6 record followed by the Texans with a 7-7 showing. In the Texan’s defense, some of their players were on the gridiron into December so that break-even record might be much better if those athletes would have been available when the season started.

Soccer will start this week and Canyon Lake Boy’s have a 1-0 record and will have a game on Saturday January 2nd in Lampasas. The Girls will get things going on Monday in Marble Falls.

The ReSporter will continue this series next week and check in with Softball, Baseball and Track & Field.

Happy 2021 and Go Hawks!!
