Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer | March 25, 2021

Boy’s & Girl’s Soccer Take Center Stage at Shelton Stadium in Hays on Friday

From Covid to Frigid Cold, Will Make Bi-District a snap for the Lady Hawks!!

Soccer will start their, win or go home, time of the year starting tomorrow when both the Boys and Girls will team up and have their Bi-District first round in Hays Shelton Stadium.

The Ladies will go second with a start time of 8:00pm and play Gateway College Preparatory while the Guy’s game will be against IDEA Montopolis with a 4:00pm start time.

Freedom Car Care says Go Hawks!

Coach Kara Stracener has a Hawk team that is in a stratosphere that has never been reached with girls soccer as this year’s team will take 14 wins into this contest.

With a lull since their last game a tie against Davenport, Coach Stracener started, “I think the spring break was much needed for us. We have players that are still getting healthy and so that came at a perfect time.”

Stracener continued, “With a record breaking season we’ve had with more wins than any other Canyon Lake girl’s soccer team, I think that is a motivation to not let that stop at the first round of playoffs.”

This Gateway team’s record is 16-3-2 which will give an impression of their strength this season. Do remember that CL’s Ladies are entering as a 4th seeded team which makes Canyon Lake the underdog in this match-up.

Each team has one common opponent against the Taylor Ducks and the score was the same with 2-0 victories.

That might give a better indication that this might be a better battle than most one seed vs. fourth seeded games this week.

            Way to Go Hawks!!

“The Girls have a different confidence this year going into to post season than they have in the past because of the success they’ve had this season,” Coach Stracener continued. “Them being able to see the result of their hard work finally paying off has been a big source of their confidence.”

How has practices been going in preparing for this game? “I think this week of practice will be important for them to continue to get ready mentally for this first match. We have reflected back on their team goals for the season and discussed what we need to continue to do as a team to meet our post season goals. The Seniors and leaders will have this week to refocus and recharge their teammates. Just like District play requires your team to step up to another level from pre district games, playoffs is another chance for our team to stop up their game to the next level. We will have the potential to get better as we go into this game on Friday, so that is encouraging.”

Canyon Lake has a chance to continue adding more wins to their season record and an upset of Gateway will be a big win for the ladies.

For the Boy’s team, The ReSporter had a chance to catch up with Coach Cody Schroeder for his thoughts on their opening game on this double header night.

Go Hawks and Take Bi-District!!

“We are excited about the opportunity to qualify for the State Playoffs,” Coach Schroeder started. “We feel fortunate that we extended our season, doesn’t matter what place you get, just matters to be given the chance to play one more game.”

IDEA Montoopolis will be bringing an impressive record (11-4-2) as a first seed with a win over Fredericksburg, 3-0 this season which is a game that can give an idea of how CL might be able to turn the tables on this team.

The Hawks were 0-1-1 against the Billies and with a crazy Covid/Weather season anything can happen.

Coach Schroeder shared his ideas on their opponent, “IDEA Montopolis is a strong, aggressive team, they have had a fantastic season. We will have our work out out for us, but we will look to enhance our strengths, minimize our weaknesses. We will need to be well organized defensively with all 11 players, and look to take advantage of our attacking opportunities.”

In that last Hawk win over Davenport their was certainly a lot of missed opportunities that were finally cashed in during that 2nd Half of a 3-0 win. Waiting a half would not be a good way of handling this playoff game.

“Seeking some consistency throughout a whole game, the good signs were there in January, but we kind of wandered away from it a bit in district, but I believe our District is as competitive as any in our region, those tough outcomes will prove pivotable in giving ourselves a fighting chance.”

The Lake has advanced to the Regional as a 3rd and 2nd seed and now this years group could certainly make a name for themselves in taking that same route this season.

“The month of March is often referred as Madness, there is a reason. It is the final season of the soccer year and every year there are stories of teams who find the spark, and go on a magical ride. We hope to find that spark.”

Canyon Lake will be on stage looking tor that spark and hopefully a chance to start a firework show with some sparks.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
