Canyon Lake Beats Bandera, 9-1, Standings-Box Score-By the #’s
CL Hawks took down Bandera to stay on top of District 28-4A Standings as Boerne and Wimberley stayed lock step as each school continues to forge ahead in hopes of taking this year’s championship.
The Lake had 13 hits in their 9-1 win as Starter Tanner Schultz combined with Peyton McMullen on a 2 hitter that increased CL’s most wins against an opponent to 12 wins with Bandera.
With the Texan and Greyhound wins it presents a situation with both schools duplicating those results this Friday and facing off the last week to see how this year’s pecking order will end up.
A Boerne sweep of Wimberley would give Canyon Lake the tie-breaker for the first seed after the Hawks sweep over the Greyhounds last week.
A split between these two schools would give CL sole possession in finishing on top of the heap.
That earlier series with Hawks and Texans splitting their two games would need some more deciphering for a chance of taking the first seed for the post-season.
Yes, Canyon Lake would still need a sweep of Davenport to realize that ending which is nothing to take for granted in this game of baseball.
Canyon Lake welcomed James LaLonde back to the line-up with a 3 hit contests that had three other Hawks with multiple hits in this win, Hunter Anderson (2 hits), Chase Anderson (2 hits), and Matt McLain (2 hits).
Griffen Williams went yard for his second homer but this trip around the base paths was not a stroll in the park but a mad dash of an inside the park jaunt variety and finished with 3 rbi.
Tyler Pauly’s triple combined with two doubles from Tanner Schultz and McLain has jettisoned this Hawk team to an all-time best in slugging percentage.
TOP 5 CANYON LAKE TEAMS Year Slugging Percentage 2021 .416 2009 .397 2020 .365 2019 .350 2011 .320
Schultz worked 4 innings for his 5th win of the year and Peyton McMullen finished with 3 innings of work for the save.
The Hawks will be home this Friday to face off with Bandera with a chance of their 2nd sweep in district to remain in first place.
Way to Go Hawks!!
