CL Hawk Softball in a Must Win Game on Friday Against Bandera
Canyon Lake Softball will have an important game on Friday as Bandera will be the match-up between two schools fighting for a 4th seed in district play.
“All around we have been playing solid softball,” Head Coach Hayley Galloway started. “Our pitchers have been throwing well, our defense has been solid, and our offense has woken up. I am proud of the energy the girls brought against Fredericksburg and Boerne and hope to see it continue as we move into a huge game against Bandera and against Davenport next Tuesday.”
CL and Bandera both come into this contest with matching, 2-6 records and the Bulldogs won their first round battle against CL,
Since that win, Bandera has not won a game and the Hawks have just finished playing those two headed monsters of this district in Boerne and Fredericksburg.
This season has those two schools enjoying wins against the bottom 4 schools that includes, Wimberley and Davenport who does not have a chance to make the post-season.
How these three teams do will tell who has the best seed on down. At this writing, Wimberley has that advantage and has already clinched a playoff berth. The question is, will they qualify as a 3rd or 4th seed.
A win this Friday gives Canyon Lake a chance for making a 3rd seed based on how the Texans game with Davenport finishes.
If the Wolves win that game, then that would give, The Lake, a chance to finish tied with Wimberley and a play in battle for a 3rd seed opportunity.
District 28-4A will have their first round of games pitted with District 27-4A and the standings for those schools has Navarro in first place and the favorite to finish on top based on how they won all their first round games by 10 or more runs.
CL lost their battle against Navarro, 7-6 in early March so having a better seed can give a chance of making round two. In that game, the Hawks had a lead going into their final inning so this would instill some confidence for a 4th seed but that 3rd spot would still be a better route for a chance of making to an Area Round.
Canyon Lake played their 2nd round district games better and reversed their first round loss to Wimberley. into a win and then a two game juggernaut against the Greyhounds and Billies. Now a two game winnable stretch with a sweep securing a playoff and chance for that 3rd seed.
But first, a win over Bandera is paramount before worrying on what might be a better seeding.
“At this point we have total control of the outcome of our season, which is comforting,” Coach Galloway closed. “I cannot wait to see the way our team comes out ready to compete on Friday.”
And The ReSporter will now use a youtube video that was played before the Hawk Baseball team swept Boerne last week. Since there is a ‘Chance’ of buying playoff T-Shirts by taking care of business.
And Let’s Go Hawks!!
