CL Hawks Green Prepare for District with Win over Llano JV, 11-7
Canyon Lake’s Green crew were able to pick up their 11th win taking care of Llano JV, 11-7.
“It feels good to get another win,” Head Green Coach Kyle Hejnicki said. “Anytime we have a good opportunity to see live pitching it will get us ready for the games we will play against Davenport next week. We played well and were able to be in our stride.”
The Yellowjackets had the lead twice in those first two innings before CL Green would answer scoring 5 runs in their next two frames that allowed enough separation to help the Hawks carry this game for a 4 game winning streak going into a district battle against Davenport this Monday.
CL was able to respond to their first inning one run deficit when Hayden Baker hit a triple which had pinch runner Marshall McConnell scoring on a passed ball.
Llano JV was able to retake the lead with a 2 run second inning that needed another Hawk response that was accomplished with 3 Jacket errors while CL registered just one hit by Baker’s second hit and a Hawk 6-3 advantage.
After a scoreless 3rd for Llano, The Lake added to their lead when Zach Elson doubled in Roman Gonzales after his single two players earlier.
Elson talked bout his double, “I came into this game all fired up and wanted a hit…I was mad at the ball.”
Being mad is not bad when it can help get a player to respond in a positive way on the field.
On what CL Green will need as the team continues with more district games,” Elson respondsed, We meed tp stay focused in this game and be ready to have fun. We need to play like we did today in district. We have a really good spirit and our contagious hitting will result in to some good play.”
Llano was not finished tho and was able to score 2 runs with some Hawk miscues that drew this game back to anyone’s to take, 7-5.
Canyon Lake would finish out the game scoring 4 runs in the fourth frame. After a ground out to start this inning, CL was able to get 5 players reach base that had Elson driving in another run that gave Baker a win and Bowers a save for the Hawks.
Now Davenport will be at the Hawk Nest this Monday as these future Hawks will work on continuing their strong season.
