PRE-GAME   Gonzales vs. Canyon Lake    Friday 7:00pm

The Hawks will be starting their post-season this Friday when they travel to Gonzales for their first game of a best of three series.

      Way to Go District Champs!

These two schools are not strangers and started this year’s season with a Hawk win, 14-8. CL also holds a 6-1 all-time series record over the Apaches.

The Lake’s last game was 2 weeks ago and when these two schools meet on Friday,  then a return game on Saturday with first pitch at 1:00pm. If each team splits those two games then the deciding game will start 30 minutes after that first game comes to a close.

Gonzales will start the playoffs on a 5 game skid as their offense has been a no show during that stretch scoring 10 runs while giving up 51 runs. Canyon Lake has been just the opposite as the Hawks are working on an 8 game winning streak and in their last 5 wins have allowed 4 runs.

On that Hawk 5 game streak the defense has a sparkling, 960 fielding percentage to go along with stalwart pitching and a batting onslaught.

Freedom Car Care says Beat Gonzales!

The Hawks will go with their 2 pitcher rotation (Tanner Schultz and Tyler Pauly) in those first two battles and since the start of district play, Peyton McMullen will be called on if needed in those later innings either to help keep a game close or finish with a save.

There is a reason why CL is a 1st seed and compared to a Gonzales 4th seed and that difference will usually have a 1st seed continuing on to that Area Round of games.

The Apaches will not have any pressure going into the playoffs and teams that play loose can surprise those upper seeded schools in a game that has so many more variables than any other team sport that helps in determining a superior team. Gonzales has won 6 of their 8 games at home and will hope to continue that trend.

Canyon Lake has a solid line-up that can go 9 players with an above .300 batting average which should help in this series.

The winner of this series will face the winner of the runner up in District 25 Needville (20-7) and the third place in District 26 Rockport Fulton (17-9-1).

Let’s Go Hawks!!
