CL Hawk’s Power Surge helps in Win over Gonzales, 13-1

Canyon Lake starts their playoff run in a win over Gonzales, 13-1.

The Canyon Lake Hawks powered their way through Gonzales, 13-1 taking their first of a best of 3 game series as the next game returns to the Hawk Nest with first pitch Saturday at 1:00pm.

            Let’s Go Hawks!!

Power was the operative word after CL rapped 11 hits with 6 of those being for extra bases. The Lake continued their torrid pace on what is now a 9 game winning streak. But there is one more game needed to get to that next round.

“We worked a lot on that,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla stated when commenting on the plethora of extra base hits. “We just started getting back in a groove and we just kept progressing throughout the week.”

The Hawks scored in all but one inning and after Pitcher Tyler Pauly gave up a hit to the first Apache hitter he would get 10 straight outs before a walk in the last inning while striking out the side while accumulating 10 for the game.

Pauly is now on a 14 game winning streak stretching the past two years, from the mound,  while lowering his era down to 1.18 as the only run scored was unearned.

Matthew McLain continued his hot streak in raising his batting average to .438 and leading the team with both of his hits being two of those 4 doubles in this contest.

Tanner Schultz teamed with Griffen Williams in rounding the bases with home-runs. Schultz had a solo act and Williams’ homer knocked in two in that clinching 5 run 6th inning.

“I’m just working to get on base,” Schultz served up on commenting on his and the team’s power surge. “I am feeling more comfortable at the plate.”

Tanner Schultz goes yard in win over Apaches.

CL had a two week hiatus and concerns of cobwebs forming was not the case as the Hawks raised their season average in batting, on base percentage, and slugging percentage.

“While it was raining last week we spent time in the dinger dome and that helped a lot,” Schultz said on how the players stayed sharp during the last two weeks. That dinger dome is where players can still get their swings in while inclement weather is taking over.

Peyton McMullen finished the win off by striking out the side but not before making things exciting after giving up two walks and a hit. No run-No problem. The bottom line was a win and needing one more to advance to the Area Round.

Way to Go Hawks!!
