CL Hawk’s Cross Country Starts Season in Good Shape.
Lake XC has been hard at work since August 1, 2021, trying to run as much and as far as possible.
The first meet had the Hawks travel to Johnson City for the Eagle Nation 6-Mile Relay, consisting of four runners per team, each runner covering 1.5 miles. “It was a great opportunity to get our feet when run a little, acclimate more to the heat and compete a little bit,” Schroeder said.
Eagle Nation also gave the Freshmen XC Lady Hawks a chance to showcase its ability and peak into the future, with Hannah Hammer, Saige Childers, Avery Hime, and Annalyse Perkins winning the JV Girls Division.
Over the next two weeks, the Hawks traveled to Dripping Springs for a 4K race to continue to build endurance and then went on to FEAST Patriot for the first true competition in the distance different runners will be competing. Several Hawk runners earned their P.R., which would also see improvement the following week.
At the San Marcos River Invitational, the Hawks would welcome back Cadence Patterson from a short break, and what a return to the action. Cadene Patterson, a sophomore would win the 2 mile Varsity Girls race with an official time of 12:50, while not a personal best, a clear dominant victory, 4 seconds faster than 2nd place and 29 seconds faster than third. While thrilled with the win, Cadence PAtterson knows she still has more and will continue to improve and be prepared for District 28-4A meet, which unfortunately she missed in 2020 due to a lower leg injury.
The Lady Hawks from the Lake also had Top 20 finishers with #13, #14, and #15 with Hannah Hammer (14.16), Saige Childers (14.17), and Annalyse Perkins (14.23). A solid performance by the Lake Lady Hawks
In addition, several Varsity boys P.R’d in San Marcos as well. Alek Villavicencio, junior, ran a 17.36, Eli Lane a freshman, ran 18:28 along with seniors Brian Clark (18:32) and Reid Mentzer (20:02) setting personal bests.
With three meets remaining, the Hawks will continue their District Meet preparation when they travel to Davenport HS on Saturday, September 18, 2021. All of the practice and early meets will culminate with the District 28-4A Cross Country Meet in Bandera, TX, on Thursday, October 14, 2021.
