CL Hawks Freshman Lose to Superior Lampasas, 21-0

CL Freshman struggled in game against an undefeated Lampasas squad, 21-0.

Canyon Lake Freshman lost their bid for a district championship in a loss to Lampasas, 21-0.

The Badgers came into this game undefeated and left the Hawk Nest with another win under their belt.

Yardage would be at a premium as the Lamps’ defense was big and had speed to boot.

The Hawks started on their own 19 yard line and ran 10 plays that covered 31 yards where a Chris Taber’s fake punt ended at the mid-field stripe.

It was a very windy afternoon that made a punt in the wind a losing battle. (It was so windy that their were reports of Sail Boats receiving speeding tickets on The Lake)

Lampasas responded by converting a 4th down at the goal line for the first score to start the 2nd quarter.’’

The Lake’s next drive was halted by a holding penalty after reaching the Badger’s 29 yard line but a stiff that matched the stiff wind defense stopped this Hawk drive.

The Badgers would score in response with a powerful 58 yard scamper by QB Jerome for a two touchdown lead, 13-0.

Issac Gayford recovered a fumble in loss to the Badgers.

Canyon Lake was able to defense the Badgers on their first drive of the 2nd half when Isaac Gayford recovered a fumble for a game that was still in reach.

“We needed to raise our intensity and focus,” Gayford stated when asked about playing a larger team. “Their size intimidated us but we can still end on a high because we want a win and want to become better by coming out on top…so, we will work hard this week!”

CL stood toe to toe but could not muster any offense in that 2nd half leaving with their first loss since their game against Alamo Heights.

Canyon Lake Freshman still have one game remaining in Burnet next Thursday with a chance of ending their campaign as an improved 7-3 record from those previous seasons.
