CL Junior Varsity Continues Hot Streak after Beating the Billies, 32-27

The Hawk Junior Varsity continued their hot streak with win over FHSJV, 32-27.
This win had Canyon Lake finishing the 3rd quarter up 32-14 as they continue their district games with a 3-0 record with their next stop against Lampasas.

Five touchdowns with 4 different players scoring while spreading the wealth after another day at the park and win.
The Hawks JV scored on their two first possessions that had CL realizing a 13 point lead during the first quarter.
The two drives were opposites after taking 12 plays to score after covering 54 yards and not having a play go more than 8 yards. A vintage slot-t slobberfest.
That 2nd Hawk drive went 25 yards on a Justin Abbott first carry and score after the CL defense forced a fumble.
The Lake would have 5 different players garner 27 yards or more on this night leaving Fredericksburg a pick your poison on who they thought might have the ball on any given play.
On CL’s 3rd scoring drive, AJ Acosta took one snap as the QB and proceeded for a 27 yard gain to Freddie’s 20 yard line.
Caden Rodriguez would finish this drive with a 5 yard run and Hawk 12 point lead, 19-7.
FHS was able to get within one score when they scored with no time on the clock that led to a more intense half-time talk leading by only 5 points, 19-14.

This first half might have been closer but an interception by Defensive Lineman Jacob Covarrubias who was able to jump into a screen play and then returning the ball 7 yards which might have been more.
“My knee has been hurt,” Covarrubias said on why he was not able to take his interception to the house. “Their guy (offensive tackle) tried to block me to the outside but then I realized the screen play because they had run that play a lot. I just jumped in and the ball hit me in the gut but my knee was hurting.”
On what this win means as the season comes down to two more games, “We showed out today but we still need lots of work and we have to work to work.”
Work being the operative word had CL working on keeping their lead by scoring on their first two 2nd half possession. To open the half, Jayden VanAusdall had the explosive play (34 yards) that set up that first score.

It was QB Steven Crowder’s first completion on this night when he found VanAusdall down the middle of the field.
VanAusdall was covered well, “Yeah, his hand was right there but I just kept on running and I just pulled it in. This was a play I had been waiting for all season.”
On how these type of wins helps in the overall outlook for the team? “This was a good effort by all of us and this helps in giving the Varsity good practices with our scout team. We will just go again next week and get a win.”
Acosta was able to thwart one of the Billies final drives with an interception, FHS finished with 4 turnovers but one last fumble by the Hawks did open the door for a Billie final touchdown with 1:22 left on the clock.
A Canyon Lake Victory Formation would finish this game and now will have CLJV preparing for a home date when Lampasas comes calling.
