Spring Branch 7B’s Groundhog Day Squeaks Out Win over MVMS

Mountain Valley Middle School 7B get offensive against Spring Branch.

Mountain Valley dominated the stat sheet but playing an offense that had just one player proved to be a tad too much for the Hawks to overcome just losing, 12-8.

                       Let’s Go Hawks!!

Two touchdown runs by #18 for the Wranglers made it a hard fought loss for a ‘team’ game that Spring Branch just used one player for doing their damage.

Every play, by this opponent except two, had #18 getting a hand off which posed a question on what took so long to call a play since all their plays was a Groundhog Day.

Those two other plays? An incomplete pass and punt while this Hawk club was able to take the lead late in the first half using 10 plays going 65 yards when Jrayson Montoya had a one yard run.

This drive did have a bump in the road when the Hawks fumbled on their 7th play but were able to recover a Wrangler fumble on their next snap which would turn out to be a 9 yard gain for those sly Hawk Coaches who drew up this unconventional offensive play.

This Drive was dominated by two Hawks with Montoya using a 20 yard explosive play for 33 yards of real estate on this drive while Gage Ziemba put an 11 yarder on his resume that totaled 25 yards total  for this drive.

Brayden Molinet and Gage Ziemba look for a better result next time they line-up.

“I know there’s a chance to score so I just stiff arm or swipe away and just make sure they don’t have a chance to tackle me again,” Ziemba said with resolve.

On how this team will respond next week? “We came into this game a little off and that showed us to be on our ‘A’ game and come back strong no matter the team we are playing!”

MVMS lead would last 17 seconds as the, aforementioned #18, would uncork his final long run going 57 yards which seemed to have all the Hawks having a chance for a tackle but to no avail.

Mountain Valley was one yard short on their final try for a score. The drive started in the 3rd quarter and ended on the Spring Branch 19 yard line during the 4th frame. MV had 11 plays converting 1 of 2 fourth down tries. That final try was a fumble snap leaving the Hawks just short of pulling off this win.

MVMS defense allowed just 34 yards during the 2nd half and corralling #18 for the rest of this game.

Take those two touchdown runs from the equation had a Hawk defense allowing 17 yards or one yard per play to close out this battle. Allowing just 3 first downs gives an idea of how dominant this defense was for this night.

                      Let’s Go Hawks!!

Brayden Molinet was one of many Hawk defensive players that used their braun to thwart those groundhogs, “During the first half, I was looking for their fastest player and normally our opponents will have plays that are similar to ours,” Molinet said eloquently. “I just have to get off the block as fast as I can and make the tackle.”

On how this game will motivate this team for next week, “We are tough and we will work hard on our blocking on offense and come back stronger,” Molinet closed.

Groundhog Day certainly had MV seeing their shadow as this game came up just short but still a defensive gem.

Way to Go Hawks!!
