CL Hawks Freshman Football 2021 Recap as Future Looks Bright

CL Hawk Freshman look to blaze more trails next year after topping all expectations with a 6 win season!

Canyon Lake had a splendid Sub-Varsity results this year which will emboldened how well the Hawks can be in these coming years.

           Way to Go Hawk Freshman!!

It has been reported on several occasions (by the ReSporter) on this year’s Freshman team that had not been a group of players with high marks on the gridiron in their previous middle school campaigns.

A total of 5 wins during those two years which had a good chance of continuing into their next step in high school. But after reaching a 6 win season showed an improvement that has CL’s Coaches with new hope as this group continues their maturation.

“What was the biggest improvement comparing the first of the season to how this team responded after that start,” Head Freshman Coach Javier Almanza Jr. said. “They started believing in themselves and they didn’t win many games in middle school and lost a starter who transferred to another school. We believed in them because they have talent. We needed them to gain that confidence in themselves.”

The Freshman started with a 2-2 record before reeling off a four game winning streak and just missing out for a chance to win district after losing to a much more superior team in Lampasas.

On what goals will be next on the horizon for this group of players?

“Goals are simple with the freshman,” Coach Almanza continued. “Keep getting better each game and learn from mistakes. We need to continue to work on our strength and conditioning going into the offseason. We’ll get these boys strong and fast so we can come back and win district as JV or Varsity next year.”

CL Freshman averaged right at 30 points per outing and forced 16 turnovers or almost 2 per game.

            Way to Hit’em Hard Hawks!!

There are several lineman that will be a must as their career continues with those unsung players seldom get the accolades those skill positions can rack up.

Kaiden Lewis (180 receiving yards) showed some incredible catching highlights to go along with stepping off 454 rushing yards.

QB Ryder Hopper was able to utilize Lewis and Carter Williams, 161 yards receiving on 7 catches and 3 touchdowns.

Williams ended the season with 8 interceptions and offensively reaching 725 rushing yards or 10.5 yards per carry while scoring 8 touchdowns.

Newbie James Garza just missed out on reaching the 1000 yard rushing milestone after sustaining a game ending injury during his last battle but Garza’s 918 bruising rushing yards will be a fun player to watch as he gets older.

Bruising runs were typical for Garza who would, on may occasions, needed several opposing players to bring him down.

Congrats Hawks and The ReSporter will hopefully see more of these players in other sports this season.
