CL Boy’s Win 3 of Last 4 Games after Demolishing Kipp Academy, 92-18
A Canyon Lake win over SA Kipp Academy was the Hawks 3rd in their last 4 outings after starting the season losing their first four battles.
“Great team win for us,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman exclaimed. “It is really nice to have a game where everyone plays a bunch and we are able to gain some confidence. I was very proud of us not playing down to our competition, but rather play to our standard.”
Everyone playing resulted in all but one player who did not score or secure a rebound.
Mikey Carrizales scored 15 first half points on his way to a 23 point night while adding 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals without committing a turnover.
Carrizales shot 64% from the floor while sinking 4 of his 7 shots beyond the arc for a night to remember.
“I am so proud of Mikey (Carrizales),” Coach Chapman glowed. “Obviously, he had a great game, but he has done an outstanding job of being a leader thus far in our season. He has grown and developed so much as a player and young man over the past 3 and half years. This game, was just a culmination of all his work and effort. He contributed in a bunch of ways and I look forward to watching him continue the rest of the season.”
The Hawks had two more double digit scorers with Adriane Duque (14) and Mario Aguilar (13) and that gave these 3 players a total of 50 points.
As a team, The Lake, accounted for 23 steals which led to 16 assists and then topped the 90 point plateau for the first time in CL’s history.

“It has been nice to get into a little bit of a rhythm the past week or so,” Coach Chapman said in commenting on the rough start. “We have finally had some more reps in practice and games with all of our players, so it has allowed us to gain some good experience and be more of the team that we can be moving forward. We are still at a point where we just need to string together quality practices and games and continue to develop.”
This contest was over quickly as KIPP was held scoreless during that 2nd quarter and offensively, The Lake scored more or tied their game total in three of those periods.
Canyon Lake finished with 57 points during the second half which was more than the season average for this year.
Griffen Williams’ (11) rebounds continued his torrid pace with another double digit board effort and has averaged 12 bounds for his 5 games played.
Griffen Williams was also the assist leader dishing out 6 to go with his 2 steals.
“We are so glad that Griff(en) Williams decided to play basketball for us,” Chapman commented on how Williams has helped inside the paint. “He gives us so much in so many areas. He had 6 assists and 0 turnovers from the 5 spot, which is really beneficial. The good thing is that he can still improve and get into basketball shape, which means his production should continue to grow.”
Canyon Lake will take on Lockhart this Friday on the road which should give a good indication on the progress for this part of the season. The Lions come into this contest scoring 52 points per outing and a chance to beat a team that could stretch the Hawks.
CL’s next home game will be against Blanco, December 17th with the tip-off at 4:00pm.
