Lady Hawks Finish Non-District 16-5 after Win over Fox Tech

Mya Vorhin was perfect from the line while recording 15 rebounds in win over Fox Tech.

Canyon Lake used the 2nd Half to separate from a scrappy Fox Tech Buffaloes by outscoring the Home team 29-9 and winning their 3rd straight, 51-29.

             Way to Go Lady Hawks!!

Sofia George (16) and Mya Vorhis both finished with double digit scoring and Vorhis turned her game into a double-double after a career best 15 rebounds. Vorhis finished the first two quarters with 11 bounds and added 3 blocks and 4 steals for her impressive stat line.

“Mya (Vorhis) played great defensively with her blocks and steals and to be able to score some easy baskets in transition,” Acting Head Coach Jimmy Chamberlin commented.

On the difference in how CL played in those last two quarters versus the first half, “We talked about our defense during halftime. It was not up to the level we needed it to be. Not only in the 4th quarter but during the whole second half that allowed us to open up the lead. That and our ability to get some steals and turnovers in the press gave us the breathing room.”

That breathing room had no smokers in it for this contest.

Tech had played two otters District 28-4A schools getting beat by Bandera, 39-38 and losing to Davenport, 40-31.

A good comparison for CL as this 22 point win speaks volumes compared to how Bandera and Davenport won their outings.

The Lake was shooting the rock well but with 51 rebounds and 24 coming on the offensive side of the court would off-set that shortcoming.

                       Let’s Go Hawks!!

Playing with a 2 point halftime lead that saw CL scoring the first 7 points in this contest but the Buffs responded with some good play in closing that gap after that first period to a 4 point deficit.

Fox Tech pulled off that same motif during the second quarter by responding again after the Hawks had opened a 10 point lead midway enjoying a, 22-12 advantage. The Buffaloes scored the final 8 points and an anybody’s game, 22-20 Hawks.

Head Coach Jimmy Chamberlin subbing in for Coach Burleson and having his own halftime rendition that helped forge a, 29-9 second half and win.

Canyon Lake will be home this Friday when Wimberley comes to the Hawk Nest to start district play and a chance for the Canyon Lake faithful to venture out and watch this surprisingly good ladies round-ball team.

Come be loud and Let’s Go Hawks!!
