CL Hawks Continue Strong Pitching in Burnet Scrimmage

Hawks score run in win over Needville during last year’s Post-Season run.

Canyon Lake continues their trek through a pre-season schedule that is now down to one last game before the real deal begins next Monday at home against Gonzales.

                    Let’s GO HAWKS!!

The Lake was in Burnet this past Monday and continued their impressive pitching after using 4 pitchers in giving up one unearned run and striking out 16 Bulldogs.

Hawk pitching has rung up 49 batter’s via the ‘K’ and lowered their era to an impressive, 0.66 during the first three scrimmages.

                              Innings bb so era
       Tanner Schultz 6.0 0 12 0.00
       Griffen Williams 4.0 4 5 0.00
       Hayden Baker 3.0 2 7 0.00
       Luke Roskin 6.0 0 12 1.17
       Hunter Anderson 6.0 5 13 1.17

That is a pretty salty staff thus far which should come in handy during tournament play starting next week in Salado.

                 Way to GO HAWKS!!

Pitching was strong last season and Canyon Lake used just 4 pitchers during district and post-season.

When asked bout what grade Head Coach Victor Escamilla would assess for pitching, batting and fielding….”Pitching an A, Batting a C and Fielding a C+. We stayed focus the entire scrimmage vs Burnet and it showed. Versus Lampasas we lost focus after the opening inning.”

The Hawks were able to get 12 hits in this win and Griffen Williams led the way with three doubles while Hunter Anderson had two hits and rbi’s. A big hit came off the bat of Tanner Schultz who had a bases clearing double that put the finishing touches on this night.

On thoughts for the final scrimmage on Friday against Lockhart, Coach Escamilla said, “The Lockhart scrimmage is our last real test to finalize the opening day starting lineup.”

There will be several players that will have their final chance to make a lasting impression before a new season comes calling next week.

            Proud of Hawks!!

Canyon Lake has brought on two new Coaches in the last two years and they are known as the Gold and Green teams.

Thoughts on these two teams? “As far as the Green and Gold, we are still moving people around. The kids are working hard and making progress,” Coach Escamilla exclaimed.

CL will open their curtain on Monday with a schedule that will have several challenges and a chance to hone their skills before an always tough, 28-4A District that starts up on March 29th.

Go Hawks!!
