CL Hawk’s Softball & Baseball Update
CL Hawk Spring Sports Into Action
The Lake will start revving up this week in earnest with Softball & Baseball getting into scrimmages in hopes of continuing their improvement from last year’s seasons.
CL Softball will have a good crew of Freshman coming aboard with hopes of improving upon last season.
One of the top returners will be Senior Riley Glenn-Millhouse who presently ranks 4th in All-Time batting average as she will bring a .417 average for a chance of finishing with a play-off spot.
TOP 4 BATTING AVERAGE
Name At Bats Hits Average
Marley Carrizales 260 132 .508
Carley Dubois 327 149 .456
Bailey Bryan 313 139 .444
Riley Glenn-Millhouse 108 45 .417
Glenn-Millhouse has suffered (as well as the team) with Wuhan keeping at bats being decreased which has kept Canyon Lake and other schools hoping for a complete season of softball.
Freshman now Sophomore sensation Gabby Barnes will bring her skill-set to the Hawk Diamond after finishing with a .318 average last year as well as helping in the circle and the infield.
Senior Emma Lane returns after breaking out with a .339 batting average while holding down the quarterback position behind the plate. Lane was the only Hawk able to hit a homer last year while finishing with an impressive .576 slugging percentage.
The Softball team scrimmaged Johnson City last week and will look to improve their competition at Blanco this Monday as their season starts off against Westlake, February 15th.
Hawk Baseball had their best season last year before bowing out in the 3rd round to Navarro while finishing with a 27-9 record and winning District 28-4A.
Some key losses but a strong Junior Class should help this team reload in hopes of continuing a Sport that has taken off these past 4 years having a slew of players picking up a glove and bat in hopes of being part of another strong season.
Senior Tanner Schultz will be leading the parade after finishing 1st Team All-District while finishing with 8 wins and striking out 78. A new development for Schultz came from the plate after sub-par Fr/So seasons.
Tanner Schultz ab r h bi 2b 3b hr bb so ave
Freshman 53 3 8 7 2 0 0 3 14 .151
Sophomore 37 6 7 6 1 0 1 4 3 .189
Junior 91 13 32 18 8 2 1 18 15 .352
The ReSporter points out the obvious in seeing how well Schultz played compared to those first two years implying that it is hard for many players to find their swing when facing upper echelon older pitchers.
Schultz will be a key ingredient on the pitching mound and will look to take over several records after enjoying success during his last 3 years.
Schultz, Chase Anderson and Griffen Williams were mentioned in the Top 40 players in Region IV this year according to THSB (Texas High School Baseball) which is to Baseball what Dave Campbells magazine is for Football.
THSB has ranked Canyon Lake 14th in their Pre-Season Poll and Flat Bill-THSB Region IV Outlook has the Hawks finishing 2nd behind Boerne in District 28-4A while holding down the 6th spot in this Region that encompasses 8 Districts.
4A Region IV Top 10 (THSB)
1) Sinton
2) Calallen
3) Boerne
4) Navarro
5) Sweeny
6) CL Hawks
7) Rockport-Fulton
8) Pleasanton
9) Tuloso-Midway
10) Hondo
Junior Chase Anderson has hopes of duplicating last year’s stats after finishing with a stellar .430 average with a .510 on base average.
One stat The ReSporter speaks for how well a player is handling a bat comes with just 4 strikeouts in his 100 plate appearances.
Griffen Williams tied CL’s All-Time Homer record of 6 and finished with a decent, .650 slugging percentage. Williams was also tabbed 2nd Team All-State by THSBCA last year and this player would be the price of your ticket this season as Williams can have a dominating appearance on the pitching mound.
The Lake has several other players that hope to go past the 3rd round this season with,
Jeremy Greene, Sr. Outfielder who batted .259 during district play.
Gunnar Walker, Sr. Designator Hitter batted .302 last year.
Dalton Stanley, Sr. 2nd Team All-District Catcher with hopes of returning during the season as he is still recovering from an injury.
Hunter Anderson, Jr. Pitcher/Outfielder was 2nd Team All-District finishing with a 2.94 era & batting .316.

Ty Sellers, Jr. Outfielder who batted .300 during district play with a .462 on base percentage.
Canyon Lake has a plethora of up and comers after another successful Junior Varsity season and a few players that might make an impact this season:
Luke Roskin, finished with 5 wins and struck out 52 in 27 innings. Batted .297 and 6 of his 11 hits were for extra bases.
Zach Elson, finished with a .362 BA and led the JV with 6 doubles.
Travis Parma, had a .300 average.
A loaded team that will have two scrimmages this week at Hondo on Monday and Lampasas this Saturday at the Hawk Nest with the Green team starting Noon and Varsity starting at 2pm.
