Good To Be Back as Coach Travis Walker Prepares for his 1st Year

Last time The ReSporter reported on Travis Walker he was signing on a dotted line for a chance to play College ball in Minnesota at Crown College & University near Minneapolis.

Coach Travis Walker returns to The Lake with his first love, Baseball.

A long way off from The Hill Country which might cause many a graduating student not seeing their high school campus any time soon or with a very low frequency.

Coach Walker has found his way back home as he is finishing his first year at CLHS and will be part of the Hawk Baseball Coaching Staff.

Walker can be seen at the top of several Hawk records in that sport after playing on Varsity for 4 years during those early days of Canyon lake High School existence.

The question could be, at this time of Hawk Baseball, would Walker been able to make the Varsity during his Freshman year?

The Hawk’s roster has many more faces on the diamond than those days back when the school had just started.

“Yeah, there are so many more players than when I started here,” Walker said matter of factly.

First in: At Bats 272 Runs 65 Hits 80 Doubles 19 Home-Runs 6
          RBI’s 44 2nd
          Base on Balls 39 4th
          Hit by Pitch 9 7th

You get the idea, Walker had a decent 4 year stint at The Lake and now will have an opportunity to contribute as a coach.

“I love it here,” Walker stated. “I know half the coaching staff and it is just good to be back.”

Help fill in the blanks, “I played all 4 years and graduated and got my masters in Sports Management and I had been working in the front office at Texas State for the past two years. But, I got tired of sitting behind a desk (probably reminded him of his catching duties at CL).”

Walker continued, “I was excited when I watched the team (Canyon Lake) playing Navarro and that is when I decided that this was where I needed to be and it has been a good fit and I just trusted them (Coaching Staff). We resembled last year’s team but there are so many players than when I was here.”

Hence the main reason Walker finds himself coaching one of those up and coming Sub-Varsity teams.

Walker was part of the only Hawk team that made it past the Bi-District round as that baseball crew in 2010 was able to just miss another round with a runner on 2nd base with a chance to win a game over Hildago who entered the Area Round with a sparkling 24-2 record.

Pitching was good that year too for the Hawks, “Yeah, but we did not have the depth that is out there now…This team is ready to go and that is really good…but it is good to be back!”

Canyon Lake is glad Coach Walker is back and can’t wait to see how he too can inspire this Hawk Sport.

Thanks Travis and Go Hawks!
