Canyon Lake split their two games against Dripping Springs (5-6 loss) and (8-0 win) to open the Comal Clash Tournament.

                         Let’s GO HAWKS!!

The Hawks will continue with two games on Friday against SA Brennan and Victoria East starting at 10:00 am.

In that first game loss, The Lake, had 8 hits which had 5 that went for extra bases with 2 doubles by Griffen Williams, one double and home run off the bat of Jeremy Greene, and Ty Sellers hitting a line drive homer over the left-field fence.

CL was enjoying a 1-0 advantage before an error prone 3rd inning that led to a DS 3 runs.

“That’s why we practice but it is the mental errors that bother me as a Coach,” Victor Escamilla said in response to those costly errors in the loss to Dripping Springs. “We practice to be perfect but we know what happens in a game we can continue to work on those mistakes and it will payoff.”

The Hawks chipped away with single runs starting in the 3rd frame that continued for 4 innings that had both schools entering the 7th all tied up at 5 runs a piece.

A 2-out solo shot doused swung the pendulum to The Springs side which had the contest end on that note.

                       Way to Go Hawks!

CL came out in their second contest with SA Lee with guns blazing with a 12 hit onslaught that finished with an 8 run ruled win.

Hunter Anderson pitched a one hitter gem with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. This was the 3rd shut-out in the first 4 games which still gives an indication on the strength of the Hawk’s pitching staff.

Chase Anderson and Tanner Schultz each led the Home Team with 3 hits a piece while Greene continued his power bat with his 2nd double in this double-header.

Jeremy Greene has productive day at The Hawk Nest with 2 doubles and a Homerun.

For Greene’s career entering today’s scheduled battles, he had a combined 4 extra base hits from his previous 83 at bats before his 6 plate appearances that added 3 more to that total.

“Part of how he (Greene) is playing is based on being a senior,” Coach Escamilla said in response to Greene’s play so far this season. “He has tremendous talent and he optimizes his skills….Greene’s bat speed is 2nd to Griff (Williams).”

On what has been the difference to start Greene’s hot streak this year, “Just being a Senior has helped me and my leadership role. With each hit I get continues to help my confidence and just putting the ball in play has boost my confidence.”

Green’e defense has seen this player more at ease in the outfield, “Just reps…we have at least 100 reps each day and they all add up after 4 years.”

On what Greene’s hopes are for this season? “We want to go neck to neck till late in district and that can help us end with a good season.”

Go Hawks!!
