Canyon Lake’s Pitcher Luke Roskin pitched the Hawk’s 5th shut-out for the year during the opening game of CL’s Comal Clash Tournament, 9-0.

           Way to Hit’em Hard Hawks!!

Two home runs by Griffen Williams (4) and Jeremy Greene (2) helped separate The Lake from John Paul II with 15 players being able to get into this contest.

A 3 run first started with a Chase Anderson single followed with a double off the bat from Hunter Anderson.  Williams’ sacrifice fly got the eventual winning run with Chase Anderson scoring.

Greene finished the scoring with a blast over the left-field fence for his 2nd of this year and 3rd for his career.

In that second game, Williams continued adding to his homer numbers with a moon-shot for a grand slam that had The Lake scoring 15 runs against Brazosport. Go to the Link below for a real shot of that home-run ball Williams hit.

Not a bad day for Williams as he got the win in that 2nd outing giving up 2 hits and 2 runs which were unearned.

“It’s a mind set,” Williams said in response to how well he has started this season.

                      Way to Go Hawks!!

On the difference batting while on the mound, “I have found that I do hit better when I am not pitching…when I am pitching I just can’t forget bout hitting and the same when I am pitching I have to stay focused.”

Well for this contest the hitting and pitching was in sync as a grand slam can usually help a pitcher whether his pitching is on or off base a tad.

It was a one run advantage, 2-1 when CL’s offense came to the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning and then a bases clearing double off the bat of Jeremy Greene was able to put this game early with the Hawk’s scoring 5 runs and enjoying a 7-1 lead.

             Hawk Proud!!

In that next stanza, Canyon Lake scored on a bases loaded walk to Luke Roskin that had Williams next up with his moon shot and accounting for 8 runs batted in for his two game’s of work.

The lopsided score allowed almost every Hawk with a chance to get their uniform dirty either by batting or fielding before a run-rule was enacted.

Brody Ross has started to get noticed with a limited 9 at bats he has 4 hits and is batting .444. In this game, Ross had a screamer that was one of the 6 Hawk hits.

“I’m just trying to put it on the ground and get on top (of the ball),” Ross said matter of factly. “I want to continue to hit the ball more to right field and just make contact and get a couple of home runs.”

Ross is a transfer student who had played baseball in the Northwest…On what the reason for such a long move to Texas, “My Dad opened a business and we just wanted to get out of Oregon.”

Brody Ross getting his footing as a move-in from Oregon.

On thoughts of this Hawk team compared to the school he left, “This team is pretty good and I thought I might not get playing time. I am having a lot of fun and I like it here with a team that is respectful to me and our opponents.

Friday’s games were cancelled but CL will be back in action at Noon on Saturday with a much anticipated battle with CC London and then SA Wagner’s game starting as soon as the London game is final.

London is presently ranked 1st for Class 3A schools according to THSB Poll and this should be a good indication of where The Lake stands going into their Spring Break contests in Corpus Christi next week.

Way to Go Hawks!!
