Lady Hawk’s Pied Pieper, 21-6 On Their Way to Winning Blanco Tourney
Lady Hawks Softball finished 1st in their Blanco Tournament with 4 wins and one tie as Canyon Lake outscored their opponents, 58-20 and CL finished the tournament portion of their schedule with District 28-4A starting March 18th when Wimberley comes to the Hawk Nest.
Canyon Lake used a 6 run inning in a comeback that had the Hawks up 3 runs in the last inning in the final tourney contest. Blanco would tie the score in the bottom of that same inning but CL had outshone the Panthers overall and finished in first place.
In the contest against Pieper the Hawks racked up 21 runs in 3 innings and put this contest in the win column as the Pieper’s pitchers issued 12 walks which combined with 12 hits had CL with an incredible .757 On Base Percentage.
Aubrey Long and Rianna Gonzales were polar opposite with no walks issued and Long won her 2nd game this year.
Madison Hartman (.500) and Riley Glenn-Millhouse (.600) finished the tourney with a healthy batting average and that helped put pressure on their opponents coming from the that top of their batting order.
Another Hawk that has had her batting average rising like an August day during a Sahara Summer is Shelby Porter who has a .692 average during this tourney. Porter started her season with a .276 batting average and now has a .344 average as she continues to climb th0se charts.
A big difference between last season and what CL has done thus far has been scoring 154 runs while last year finishing with 120 runs during their 25 game schedule.
Youth is in abundance with several players contributing and Rianna Gonzales has been one of those contributing in the circle with 5 wins while also batting .421 offensively.
On what Gonzales thought when she was in the circle for the first time, “My first game scrimmage I didn’t do to well…I took that personally and I started doing more pitching on my own. I used a weighted ball.”
Gonzales continued, “I was scared and timid and did not feel comfortable but we (the younger players) started to bond with the older players and that has helped us to learn to be more confident…instead of fretting over a mistake I have taken what happens—happens but I am more comfortable and not letting it slow me down.”
Exciting Softball that has been one of many Hawk team sports that is benefitting from this group of Freshman Ladies that will certainly continue many more games with a new found success.
