CL Hawks Boys Track & Field Ready for Area Meet
Canyon Lake Boys Track finished District 28-4A Meet qualifying some well deserving athletes to the Area round this week on Wednesday in Cuero.
Marshall McConnell takes 1st Place in the High Jump at the District Meet.
The Lake has had success with the high jump in the past and Marshall McConnell continued that event finishing first reaching 5-10 for the win.
“I had a lot of confidence coming into this meet based on my practices,” McConnell said. “I will be working on refining the basic fundamentals because I am not twisting enough on my jumps,”
On thoughts when McConnell finished first, “Wow…I kind’ve thought it is done now and now I am pretty confident I can reach 6’ at Area but I have always had 6’2 as my goal and would like to reach that into the Regional Meet.”
Shayne Moss will be working on getting to Kingsville (Region Meet) with the 100 meter dash event.
“I was hurt during soccer and it has been hard work to get back,” Moss said. “I have been slowly working in more events but I just have not wanted to kill myself but this district meet has been good since we have an off day between the two days and that has helped since it takes me longer to recover.”
Shayne Moss keeps his season going qualifying for this week’s Area Meet.
On qualifying in the 100 meter, “I will have to get into a zone and get into tunnel vision.”
That last comment was in talking bout this race just goes in a straight line with no curves.
Moss turned in the 2nd best time in Hawk history behind Jordan Anderson and now holds the best long jump mark when he passed Gerrit Wilkins in this event going 21-20.00 last year.
Connor Windham upped his mark in the shot put with a 46-07.00 throw and with a good Area meet having a chance to pass Robert Woods’ 47—3.50 mark back in 2016.
Colby Mickey will hope to get in a groove after reaching 13 feet in the pole vault earlier this season which would help send him to Kingsville.
