Hawk’s Softball Pull off Sweep of Wimberley with, 10-1 Win

Head Coach talk strategy with Pitcher Rianna Gonzales and Catcher Emma Lane in an earlier tourney this season.

Canyon Lake Softball swept Wimberley on Tuesday and will now carry a 4-2 record to Fredericksburg on Friday for a chance to take aim for a chance to achieve a 2nd place finish in District 28-4A.

                     Way to Go Hawks!!

The Lake would have the tie-breaker if Wimberley ended their district schedule tied with CL based on winning both battles.

It would take upsets to derail Canyon Lake with the worst case scenario of needing a play-in with Davenport. The Wolves would need to beat CL and hope the Hawks lose to Bandera for that scenario to be realized.

This two game sweep was used by an industrial sweeper as your Hawks took the Texans to the cleaners scoring a combined 23-2 whitewash in those two contests.

Emma Lane picked off the Texans’ runner on first after CL was able to get Wimberley’s  lead runner at home with a Shelby Porter throw to Lane.

The Hawks got their fireworks going with 5 run outburst during the 3rd inning with a triple off the bat of Riley-Glenn Millhouse that scored Alysa Johnson (who reached on a single) and Gabby Barnes (who reached on a Texan error). a Porter ground out scored Glenn-Millhouse and Jaden Castillo’s double scored courtesy runner Cheyenne Fields and Porter in what would be the winning runs, 5-0.

Texas Country is Proud of CL’s Softball Team, Go Hawks!!

Barnes recorded almost 5 innings of strikeouts and except for giving up a homer in the bottom of the 4th that would be the only damage for Wimbo.

“While pitching I had confidence within myself so I felt like I was throwing like a beast,” Barnes ‘Beauty’ said. “Yes, there were hits here and there and even a homer but I dug deep and realized that I could get the last out before it snowballed.”

In this blowout, it was the bottom of the batting order that administered the damage rapping 5 of the 7 hits and CL finishing with 18 players reaching base due to a hit, walk, hit batter or error.

On thoughts on the Hawk’s hitting in this game and season, “Hitting wise the whole lineup was hitting which helped us get the win and I’m very proud of our team being able to make adjustments at the plate.”

On what type of adjustments that were made, “Their pitcher was throwing rise balls and everyone was swinging at them. The second time around we laid off of them.”

On what it means to sweep Wimberley, “to defeat Wimbo was an amazing feeling. Last year, it was always a tight game so it feels nice to relax when playing them again.”

The Battle of the Backbone happened to be a chicken’s wish bone because that would be the only way this Home team could win… wishing they had enough to pull off a victory and that wish was just blowing in the wind.

A good win for Canyon Lake with a chance to give the Billies a run with a chance to finish higher in the District 28-4A race.

Now pass The ReSporter a chicken leg….Way to Go Hawks!!
