Lady Hawk’s Play Power Ball in Win over Bandera, 20-1
Canyon Lake used a power and surge and piled it on in win over Bandera, 20-1. A total turn-a-round from that first game that finished with a CL, 3-2 advantage.
A lot of frustration was lifted out of the ballpark in the form of home runs as the Hawks took only 3 innings to run rule the Bulldogs as this win secured The Lake’s playoff spot as a 3rd seed.
If Canyon Lake loses and ties Wimberley with one game remaining then a 3rd seed would still be the Hawks based on sweeping the Texans which would be the tiebreaker.
The Hawks got 5 of their hits to start this game scoring 8 runs with Gabby Barnes starting off with a hit and with her next at bat sent the ball over the fence for a 3-run homer. Those last 4 runs scored with two outs.
In the next inning, it was Shelby Porter’s turn with her 3-run bell ringer then Alysa Johnson put an exclamation point on the night with her grand slam and another 8 run inning, 16-0 four batters later.
“It was on a 2 – 2 count and I was worried but I wanted to get the head of my bat on the ball and I needed to wait for the ball,” Johnson said in response of what she was thinking on her home run at bat. “When I got my bat half way through my swing I knew that it was gone because I hit it right on that spot on the bat.”
When The ReSporter was talking with Johnson during CL’s first tournament earlier this year, Johnson mentioned that she had been working on wanting more power for her swing. “I’ve been working on my pre-snap and trying to get my timing down right.”
Which seems that those lessons have come to fruition and what Johnson’s thoughts for the last regular season battle this next Tuesday, “This will be our last home game for our Seniors and we want to go in strong and finish strong for them!”
Back to that 2nd frame, The Lake, had 10 consecutive players reach base before getting their first out.
Reached on Error: Gabby Barnes, Cheyenne Fields 4 Walks: Riley Glenn-Millhouse, Emma Lane, Jaden Castillo, Rianna Gonzales 1 Single: Riley Glenn-Millhouse 2 Home Runs: Shelby Porter, Alysa Johnson 1 Hit Batter: Gabby Rivera
Bandera’s softball field has the players batting against a strong wind that was another hurdle to clear by the trio of round-trippers.
Gabby Barnes got her 5th district win and reached 10 wins for this season in the game.
Now Canyon Lake will focus on their final district game with Davenport and wait for either La Vernia or Cuero game as those two schools will be either 3rd or 4th to be decided on Tuesday.
Way to Go Hawks!!
