CL Hawk’s Bats go Silent in Loss to Needville, 4-1

Canyon Lake Baseball went quietly in their first round loss to Needville, 4-1.

“I will get the idea across to the team that we will need to play one game at a time,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said when stating on what is the mindset for this  series. “Game two will stand alone and we will get after it.”

            Go Hawks Beat Needville!!

Offense was left in the bus with Griffen Williams being the only player to have a bat when reaching the plate.

A two hitter from Williams’ bat was the only damage after CL had just 5 Hawks reach base.

Now The Lake will need to bounce back quickly with a win on Friday and a chance to get another chance for more games.

Williams was the losing pitcher giving up 5 hits and striking out 9 Blue Jays in his 7 innings of work.

Atom was one of the downfalls in this set-back after some hard hit balls going right atom and giving no chance to stage a comeback.

CL’s only run was scored when Chase Anderson reached base on an error to start the 4th inning. Then a stolen base and sacrifice bunt had Anderson scoring on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Williams. Another atom hit which seemed to be one of the themes in this loss.

Needville broke the tie in the top of the 6 frame with a hard hit to the hot box that led to an error. Then there Blue Jays were able to get two singles and a walk for 3 runs and the game.

Now CLHS will need to bring all of their bats for a chance to continue this best of three series.
