CL Hawks Playoff Tid-Bits: Region IV & District 28 are Tough
The Hawks are reaching goals that were only dreamed about in years past for baseball as Canyon Lake prepares for 2 playoff seasons in a row.
Another season reaching the 20 or more win barrier while finishing 1st & 2nd in District 28-4A these past two seasons.
Beating three teams that were ranked when the game took place in 1st Place: CC London in class 3A, 2nd Place: Boerne and 3rd Place: Central Catholic from the Large School Private School sector.
On top of those accomplishments, The Lake, will go into this year’s post-season after playing in the toughest Region in Texas as well arguably the toughest district in Region IV.
Want proof? The ReSporter has numbers below that makes the case of those two statements above.
Taking the 4 top teams of each district in Region IV can give you an idea of which district looks the strongest.
It probably would not be a stretch to once again show that District 28-4A had a much higher hurdles than those other 7 district teams in this region. Fredericksburg did not make the post-season but look at some of their marquee wins this season: NB Unicorns (Dist. 12-2) Won 16-5, SA Christian (Large School 25th ranked) Won 8-7, Lost to Marion (Undefeated) 3-2. That is a pretty good resume for a 5th place district team.
Another scenario would see District 31 sweeping District 32 which happened last year.
District 28 has a chance to sweep District 27 with Davenport and La Vernia being a decent match-up.
The Lake’s road will be similar to last season with a win over Cuero having a rematch with Needville and then a bigger challenge for the Needville & Hawk winner pairing up with #1 Sinton.
The two ranked publications below has Region IV as the overall dominant region.
In the THSB rankings, Region IV has the top 3 schools in our region plus 5 more teams for almost a 3rd of the participants. Region I has the least with 4, Region II comes in with 6 and Region III tops out with 7 teams in this Top 25 poll.
The THSBCA ranks 15 schools and Region 4 put 6 on that list followed by Region III-4, Region II-3, and Region I-2.
Canyon Lake can boast that they are in the toughest Region and District based on numbers below.
A lot of numbers to crunch and knowing that the State of Texas is so large that teams in the Valley are not even in the same time zone as some teams in far West Texas or Panhandle of Texas.
So yes, there could be some surprises but looking below it should show how each region-district has performed thus far.
Taking the records and combining of those top 4 teams from each district should shed some light for how each district ranks in the grand scheme of this deciphering.
The Post-Season starts on Friday at 4:00pm in San Marcos-Texas State.
Go Hawks!
