Hawk’s Volleyball Finish 3rd in Bronze Bracket at Tex-Fest Tourney

Claire Schroeder & Elise Johnson are the first line of defense in Hawk win against Bridge City.

Hawk Volleyball split their two Saturday games at the Wimberley Tex-Fest Tournament and will now take on Poth this coming Tuesday at the Hawk Nest.

                        Let’s Go Hawks!!

Bridge City was the early morning win when Canyon Lake was able to come back from an improbable, 20-24 deficit to pull out a, 27-25 victory.

In that second set, The Lake, took the lead and never relinquished that advantage coming out with a final, 25-22 outcome for a sweep.

Prince of Peace Catholic school from Carrollton, Texas had just enough weapons to take that second game by the identical score, 25-21. PoP used a 5 point rally to take their 9-8 lead and got enough separation to coast to that first set win.

Canyon Lake would not go easy and was in control with a 4 point, 19-15 lead before losing their focus and being outscored, 10-2 for PoP,s clinching win, 25-21.

“Our focus and energy led to our loss,” Head Coach Kim Clemons surmised. “We will be working on our conditioning and lack of focus before we meet Poth on Tuesday.”

CLHS continues to show glimpses of bringing it all together but still need some rally stopping moments.

Seniors Maddie Oberholtzer & Emily Pena after another grueling outing.

Libero Maddie Oberholtzer was quick for this win one/lose one day, “We have had 5 games in 2 days and so I thought our energy was not there but we still have some good team atmosphere and we will need to build confidence as we get ready for district.”

Senior Emily Pena chimed in, “The competition was more solid in that second game today and we seemed to not have much energy….we will need to get mentally better and as seniors we will hold up our confidence and keep supporting our team. We will want our younger players to not be scared to make mistakes!”

That might be the key as those dastardly mistakes can take a team out of a game as the Hawks have had a tendency to be in the thick of their battles and lose games during those final moments.

The Hawks finished 3rd in their Bronze Bracket and was placed 23rd out of the 37 teams.

The Poth contest will be early with Sub-Varsities first serve at 3pm and with the Varsity following.
