Hawks Volleyball take One of Three Games at Tex-Fest

Seniors Claire Schroeder & Maddie Oberholtzer get ready for action.

Canyon Lake’s Volleyball started their Tex-Fest Tournament and fell of their carriage after an 1-2 record and will work on improving that record on Saturday.

The Hawks started the day beating an always tough Poth team before finishing the first day losing to Johnson City and Hardin.

Huntleigh Morast was instrumental in this two game sweet after leading The Lake with 7 aces while taking the Pirates, 25-21 & 25-15.

Those next two battles were different while faltering during the later stages of each match.

Against Johnson City, Canyon Lake was neck and neck being down 14-15 before being outscored, 10-6 to close that contest. Same dance moves in that second match when the Hawks led, 14-13 before the Eagles outscored CL, 12-6.

Hardin would have the same music with a, 17-17 tie before an 8-4 finish and then having a tied set, 14 all before Hardin finished with an, 11-4 advantage.

So close but each outcome coming up short.

“We consistently battled for every point,” Head Coach Kim Clemons stated. “But our opponents were more experienced and were able to make some awesome shots. We just fell off the carriage and couldn’t recover.”

Coach Clemons finished, “I was pleased with our support for each other and communication but we aren’t perfect.”

Claire Schroeder hoping for an improved Volleyball Team.

Canyon Lake is coming off a, 10-23 record and have been starting well but stepping on the gas has not come to fruition yet as this day seemed like CL was afraid of running out of gas and knew they might not have enough money to fill their gas tank up for some wins.

On what was learned on this day, Senior outside hitter Claire Schroeder was on point, “We did a good job of lifting each other up and communicated well, but we will need to continue to work on brushing off our mistakes as we have a young team playing varsity for the first time. So we will keep trying to feel comfortable and boost our confidence and get better.”

Canyon Lake will get their next serves Saturday at 9:15am against Bridge City in Danforth Gym.

Let’s Go Lady Hawks!!
