CL Hawk’s Gold & Green Lineman Look for Pancakes after Sweep of Veterans Memorial
Canyon Lake’s Green team won their 3rd straight after a dismantling of Veterans Memorial, 35-8 on Thursday at the Hawk Nest.
The first drive would be all you would need to know, that this might be a blow out, after CL’s offensive line continued to win those battles in the trenches allowing Cash Ziemba to reach 92 yards rushing in his 3 quarters of work.
A duet of Jace Morales and Ziemba on that first Hawk drive had the Green team traveling 56 yards using 5 plays in a little more than 2 minutes of work.
Veterans responded with a first down using two plays but those 13 yards gained would be the extent of real-estate as The Lake held these Patriots to a paltry 12 plays for -4 yards during the rest of this half.
Defense or Offense, Canyon Lake was in control accumulating 13 first downs and 182 yards while holding VM in single digits with 0 yards rushing and 9 yards by air.
Results was a comfortable, 28-0 advantage and figuring out where everyone would be eating after this game during their halftime talks.
CL’s last drive of the half culminated when QB Jordan Scheppler’s had a perfect pass for Morales’ out-stretched hands for a 22 yard touchdown.
This whole game had Canyon Lake going down hill with only one play that finished with a loss on a muffed snap that resulted in Scheppler falling on that loose ball for a loss of 2 yards.
It was another game for the 2nd half with CL’s Green getting everybody in this battle starting with the Patriots going backwards 13 yards and the Hawks taking their possession 55 yards.
It took 11 plays and over 7 minutes for a score with 47 seconds left in that 3rd quarter. Ten of those 11 plays went for 3 to 9 yards and then a Chris Brown 24 yard score sauntering across the goal line for a final nail in that proverbial coffin, 35-0.
Canyon Lake’s Gold team took the field for an extra quarter because a Lake Travis cancellation, that was probably decided after watching tape of that dominating (46-0) win over Boerne Champion the week before.
Veterans got a quarter full of buckshot administered by Tristan Hallman taking the 2nd play of CL’s opening drive for 72 yards to paydirt down the far sideline.
This quarter was from the same song book when the Hawk defense held these Patriots to a total of 27 yards before Hallman would have a shorter verse this time going 48 yards and a CL, 12-0 lead and win.
On if Hallman thought he might be caught, “No, I never thought that.” Who do you give the credit to on your two runs? “For my lineman and all the players who blocked for me.”
Granny Ds could have a busy day coming the first of November, “We have a bet that if we can win the district then we (the running backs and skill players) will buy them some pancakes.”
That is exactly what CL’s offensive line was accomplishing on this game as there were pancake blocks galore with the only thing missing being syrup.
Cash Ziemba also commented on how well today’s line played, “The line just opened holes incredibly wide….I could not have done it today without them…they opened massive holes and I could have gone anywhere on the field.”
What’s next? “We will have to do some preparing in practice and I think we are ready for a 6A (team), Ziemba finished.
Speaking bout lineman, The ReSporter caught up with Kevin Noack, “We just try to help each other out and be supportive and just do your job no matter what.”
On what Noack’s thoughts after opening a hole and watching the fruits of those blocks, “I’m just saying, go get’em!”
Noack saiid while thinking bout those pancakes as this season progresses.
Canyon Lake Freshman will be at East Central next week with the Gold kicking off at 5pm and the Green following at 6:30pm….way to GO HAWKS!!
Catch the Twitter and Instagram reels with Kevin Noack, Cash Ziemba, and Tristan Hallman.
