CL Hawks Water Polo Make a Splash in Win Over SV Rangers, 10-9

Enjoying the Water after a stunning come-back win over SVHS, 10-9.

Canyon Lake’s Water Polo Team gave a Splash in the face of Smithson Valley during last second comeback victory, 10-9.

Way to go Water Polo Hawks!!

This was the first win over Smithson Valley in any sport for The Lake and it was fitting it came from the Water Polo team that has a lake separating these two schools.

It was another fingernail biter win as SVHS had enjoyed the lead throughout this contest except at the most important time being when that game clock showed, 0:00.

Ryan Alvarez scored the winning goal with 16 seconds remaining in this comeback and exciting outcome.

The Rangers took a 3-0 lead after that first quarter of play but the Hawks would splash water in their own face for a wake up call and that they did by getting within one goal going into halftime down, 4-3.

The Lake would get back into a huge hole when SV came out and outscored CL, 5-1 during that 3rd period and Canyon Lake would feel like Salmon going up stream with these Rangers ready to catch and squander any hopes for a win.

Going into that final period, CL found themselves down, 9-4 and a mighty Mississippi to swim across for a win.

                            GO HAWKS!!

But quit was not in CL’s vocabulary with this stunning finish scoring 6 unanswered goals with that final shot coming with 16 seconds before water would be drained from Smithson Valley’s pool.

Levi Garner was the top scorer again with 7 but that dominance would leave Alvarez with more room for his final victory goal and finished with 3 in this win. The Hawks scored on 59% of their shots which proved to be just enough.

Alvarez led, The Lake, with 3 assists and he was joined by Milo Martin-Rider (2 assists) and one assist each for Jacob Munoz, Jackson Alvarez, and Garner.

      Hawk Proud

Only 4 steals with one each for Martin-Rider, Ryan & Jackson Alvarez and Garner.

Goal keepers, Evan Cruz and Munoz both ended the game with 5 saves a piece which was good enough for another victory for this upstart crew!

The Hawks will be at Davenport this Tuesday for their next match and next home date coming against Alamo Heights this Friday before the Homecoming festivities.

Way to GO HAWKS & CONGRATS!!
