Hawk’s Junior Varsity Turn Tables Over in Win over Billies, 26-7
Head JV Coach Daniel Lancaster is more upbeat after in closing out talks after win, 26-7 over Billies.
Canyon Lake’s Junior Varsity turned the tables in their win over Fredericksburg, 26-7.

Last week, The Lake JV did not have a good start in their loss to Wimberley but 7 days later a different team took the field and dominated the Billies as both Offense & Defense controlled from the outset with stars so bright the stadium lights were not needed to leave the field.
First up was Defensive Back/Receiver Mason Paananen who had 3 receptions with two of those receptions coming from the Billies QB and a touchdown catch from CL’s QB Ryder Hopper.
In a span of 5 plays, Paananen stopped FHSJV’s first drive with his INT and then a 25 yard run from Kaiden Lewis set up a 15 yard touchdown pass giving the Hawks a quick, 14-0 lead. That 2nd INT stopped the Billies at CL’s 12 yard line saving a potential score.
Second up was Justin Abbott with a 75 yard touchdown run on CL’s fourth play of the game giving the good guys an, 8-0 lead and a statement drive that was totally opposite from that prior week in Wimbo.
Abbott finished the night with 154 rushing yards and Lewis finished with 141 yards of total offense which had a 65 yard touchdown run called back due to a penalty.
Make it count Hawks!!
Third up had a defense that gave up a total of 83 yards as the pass defense allowed just 7 total yards on 2 receptions. Flustering the Billies QB was in the cards with sacks and hurry-ups resulting in 11 incompletions and two interceptions (mentioned above) that took all hope from Fredericksburg.
Rushing was not much better with their first 6 rushing plays adding up to 6 yards and their next attempt doubled that output. CL’s defense held Freddie to a 3.6 average per rush with 3 punts and causing 3 turnovers. Not a bad night!!
Ty Badger’s tackle on Freddie’s QB was case and point of the toughness for this Hawk Defense. The Billies QB had broken from a defensive rush and with an open field for a certain first down and a boat load of yards. Then enter Badger with a splendid one-on-one tackle that stopped this play for just a 2 yard gain.
Fourth up was a having punter Ryland Oppelt rebound after a 14 yarder then finishing with a 41 yard average with a run for 20 yards converting a fourth and 14 play on his last attempt on a snap that went over his head.
That kept CL’s final drive in motion that ended by running out the clock on the Billies 13 yard line.
Fredericksburg’s only touchdown came with 10 seconds remaining in that first half where the Billies needed 7 plays to score after reaching CL’s 9 yard line.
A couple of helpful penalties played a part in allowing that first and only score but this game was never in doubt which was certainly a, ‘turn the tables’, on this night.
Next game will be a tough one at home next week against Boerne Champion. Let’s hope those tables stay set for this game.
