Hawk’s Volleyball Continue Trek Playing 6A Schools in Loss
The Hawk Volleyball lost to San Marcos another 6A squad as the season continues towards district play in two weeks.
Games against larger schools will seldom have a good outcome but knowing a bigger goal is in the works should give CLHS a good idea of what is possible when district play comes calling.
Canyon Lake is working with several players who just need more reps and that goal has been successful with many players becoming more comfortable.
One player, Middle Blocker, Haley Eckert, continues to play a more important role as she leads the team for blocks thus far.
“I just want to do anything that will help my team,” Eckert stated.
On how she prepares for this part of her game, “I watch the setter and move where the ball fast and get my feet ready. Then, I look to get my hands up and start pressing.”
“I am feeling more comfortable with my pace and we have a good relationship with each other and that helps,” Eckert closed when reacting to how many games that have been played and thoughts on the team as district gets closer.
In this San Marcos contest, the Rattlers jumped out to a commanding lead in that first set and did not let up by closing out with 8 straight points.
The Lake did perform well in that 2nd set by keeping it close having a deficit of 2 points, 15-17 before SM finished with another strong set outscoring the home team, 8-1.
Canyon Lake has struggled most of this season in finishing strong which was once again a thorn in that 3rd set and CL still tied, 7-7 and then another 7 point rally doubled San Marcos lead for their coast and victory, 25-15.
Emily Pena was on each tally but one in leading CL with 7 kills, 13 Digs, 7 assists, and tied 3 other Hawks for Aces with one.
Canyon Lake will travel to Blanco for their Friday bout starting at 4pm for the Sub-Varsity teams.
