CL Freshman Gold’s Win had Pied Pieper’s Following Hawk’s Music.

A lot of holding going on but the Warriors still could not protect their lead in Hawk’s Gold win, 22-20.

Canyon Lake’s Gold Freshman team beat the odds in taking down the Pieper Warriors, 22-20 on Thursday night at the Hawk Nest.

GO HAWKS & don’t forget to VOTE!

The Lake found themselves down 20-8 going into halftime with 52 yards of offense while the Pied Piepers’ owning the scoreboard and coasting along with 195 yards through the air and scoring 20 straight points with what would seem more on the way to start the next two quarters.

Not so fast, as these Pied Piepers found that there was no one else following…especially any Hawks as this CL team had other ideas.

How bout a defense that controlled the 2nd half and held these visitors to negative 17 yards of offense during those last two quarters.

That same defense was able to jump start during that 3rd quarter when a recovered Warrior fumble in the end zone had Kahle Bowers securing that loose ball that drew this improbable Hawk team within 6 points of tying the game up, 14-20.

It happened after CL started their 2nd stanza and Tristan Hallman’s recovery of an onside kick which let to an 11 play drive to the Warrior’s 11 yard line but ended after a Hawk interception.

Did we mention that the Hawks would end this game 5 turnovers too? Winning would not be a thought with that type of stat.

                    Way to go Hawks!!

But that was when CL’s defense made their entrance with two consecutive negative plays totaling -17 yards and Bowers harboring that fumble which gave the Hawks some hope for a comeback.

These Pied Piepers were still feeling confident but a failed 4th down that left CL starting on the 50 yard line. This drive would end with a Hawk lost fumble for the Warriors who now had another chance of adding to their lead.

CL’s defense was nails in giving up only two plays that had positive yardage during this second half. One was a running play for 1 yard and 1 passing play that covered a whopping 6 yards of real estate,

Pieper next turnover was on downs and this time The Lake’s offense would respond with a 45 yard drive that was helped with a timely face-mask penalty and CL setting up shop on the Warriors 25 yard line.

                 Way to Go Hawks!!

That was when Gram Simpson was able to break loose on a 24 yard run which also was the longest play and had Simpson finishing with 76 rushing. Hallman’s two point run gave these Hawk’s a, 22-20 lead.

This touchdown left over 5 minutes for these Pied Piepers to retake the lead back.

Enter CL’s defense to put that final nail into the Warriors’ coffin after 3 incompletions and one negative 2 yards on that one rushing play.

That gave Canyon Lake a chance to ice these Pieper’s which happened when Hayes Holladay’s QB sneak on a 4th down conversion for 1 yard gave the Hawks one more set of downs.

Then a 4 yard run by Lucas Schexnayder that was followed with two runs of 3 and 4 yards by Hallman and one last first down on the Warrior’s 23 yard line where two QB Holladay victory formations that ran out the clock and an improbable win, 22-20.

Lucas Schexnader, Kahle Bowers & Ryan Hummel with a winning pose!!

A defensive line that left this Warrior team with no chance to respond and huge Hawk win.

Next week this Gold Freshman team will finish their season on Wednesday against Canyon Freshman as this group of young men continue to impress on the gridiron.

Way to GO HAWKS!!
