Canyon Lake’s Green Freshman team started on the wrong foot when Davenport took the opening drive and waltzed down the field covering 62 yards using 8 plays and a quick, 8-0 advantage.

MIMA’s TACOS LOVES THE HAWKS!!
Then on that next drive the dye was cast when the Wolves would line-up in a goal defense with at most 3 players not lined up on the line of scrimmage.
That would have the Hawks managing just a 3.9 average yards per rush which resulted in 25 plays going for 3 yards or less or 66% of those rushing plays for the game.
One of those over 3 yards rushing had Eli Hammons with a 24 yarder on the 2nd play on the Hawk’s first drive and then a 40 yard pass from QB Jordan Scheppler to Jace Morales helped put CL in position for a score on the last play of that opening quarter trailing, 8-7.
Each team’s defense was dominant for the rest of that first half with that same score and one point deficit.

The Hawk’s opened the 2nd half with an 8 play drive for 73 yards and 3 explosive plays with two coming by the airwaves that covered 36 of those yards and a Morales 22 (matching his number) that set the stage for Hammons 2nd touchdown on a 3 run score and lead, 13-8.
Davenport would answer with a scoring drive by going 83 yards on 8 plays and those last 37 steps from the Wolves’ Quarterback and final score, 15-13.
Both team’s defense followed the first half script as each school failed to add any more points on the scoreboard.
A tough game that had Davenport’s defense giving CL’s offensive line too many players to block which was one of the main reasons for this loss.
