Hawk’s Freshman Green Wallop MFalls, 42-19
Canyon Lake’s Green Freshman team took no prisoners in their dominating win over Marble Falls,42-19.
“We did not have a great start in our game with East Central and in this game we came into it with a much better start…we came in focused and ready to go,” Head Freshman Coach Kyle Hejnicki stated.
Jace Morales totaled 264 yards of total offense which almost doubled the yards these Mustangs could muster as a team. Morales had just two plays during the 2nd half which resulted in a 12 yard run and a 60 yard touchdown reception.
“He (Jace Morales) is a difference maker…he is really fast and he is fluid and has a great sense to change direction and then just finding holes,” Coach Hejnicki heaped praise. “But you have to give credit to our OLine too, as they blocked for him!!”
Just counting Morales’ touchdown runs he finished with 132 yards just on those plays.
These Hawks scored on their 3rd play from scrimmage when Morales went on a 50 yard jaunt and then on CL’s next possession that took 6 plays and another Morales score from 8 yards out.
After giving up an 80 yard kick-off return to the Mustangs, Morales would put a dagger to these Ponies on his 74 yarder that showed no mercy and upped The Lake’s lead back to 14 points.
CLFreshman continued their onslaught scoring on their next possession on 9 plays and showing some love to Eli Hammons who covered those final 7 yards giving CL a 28-7 lead before halftime.
A late TD for MFalls did leave a, ‘it’s not finished mindset’ and that had The Lake opening their 2nd half with a defense forcing a punt and then starting where they left off when QB Jordan Scheppler found a streaking Morales for a 60 yard catch and run leaving no doubt of who the better team would be on this night.
The Hawk defense forced a fumble and another scoring drive featuring Hammons with his second score and a time to empty the bench with a commanding, 42-13 lead to finish this bludgeoning.
Canyon Lake had just two possessions without a score and both came when the offense was running out the halftime and 4th quarter clock.
The best offensive game this year totaling 355 yards compared to the home teams’ 145 steps. A nice average of 10 yards per play will go a long way in achieving that first district win.
Speed kills and that was evident with a clear sight to win as Freshman to continue what this group accomplished as Mountain Valley Hawks last season.
Way to GO HAWKS!!
