              Make it count Hawks!!

Canyon Lake and Burnet will be playing in their 10th game since the CL started playing a varsity schedule back in 2008.

The Hawks surprised the Bulldogs in a playoff win back in 2010 when Zach Henshaw’s running surprised the Dogs in the first B-District win for The Lake.

CLake is on a 4 game winning streak and will look to increase that record this Friday to keep on top of the District 13-4A standings.

A common opponent was against Marble Falls as both teams won that game and the Hawks were able to enjoy a better offensive night compared to how the Bulldogs did in their game and on the defensive side too.

These past two weeks you could make an argument that CL has played the 2nd best offense and worst offensive teams respectfully.

The Hawks will be facing one of the best defensive units this week based on games played in district while the Bulldogs will have their hands (paws) full taking on a Hawk team that is performing well on both sides of the ball.

                   Let’s Go Hawks!!

Polar opposites has CLHS rushing for 409 yards per outing while Burnet’s ground game is right at 100 yards. If these trends hold then the Bulldogs will have a chance to pull off an upset based on how well their offense can go to the airways.

While CL will work to control the clock by keeping the ball on the ground and will try to continue to keep those first downs adding up. Presently Canyon Lake is averaging 23 first downs per game which presently an all time best with the previous best was pulled off two years ago with an average of 20.73 that season.

These Bulldogs did hold Lampasas to their 2nd lowest point total in that loss two weeks ago but their offense met a tougher defense in that set-back.

Braden Clark ranks 3rd in district 137 yards receiving while Dash Denton is 8th in rushing with 125 yards of real-estate.

                     Let’s Go Hawks!!

Burnet’s signature win was their opening game win over La Vernia winning, 36-25 as those Bears are atop their district at this writing. That makes 5 of the Bulldogs 7 games have come against schools that have winning records.

CL’s first road game in district play after winning their last away battle against 6A East Central San Antonio, 20-10.

The Lake’s have hit their stride offensively averaging right over 500 yards per game with 408 of those yards on the ground.

Scoring 10 points in that first quarter was the difference in securing a win in that tug-of-war game with Davenport.

Reducing turnovers will be a key as well as seeing the Hawk defense rise to the occasion in controlling Burnet’s passing game.

Ball control will be crucial for the Hawks in taking this next step on their march for a possible district championship.

Let’s Go Hawks!!
