CL Hawks Lose in a Blink of an Eye to Calhoun, 28-13
Canyon Lake met their match against an explosive option attack combined with a swarming defense that gave the Hawks a hard time in acquiring consistency losing, 28-13.
A bright start for CL after they took their opening drive for a 16 play 71 yard drive. This start was consistent with converting 4 consecutive 3rd downs and longest offensive snap going 7 yards, 7-0.
The Lake would get their first glimpse when Calhoun was needing a 17 yard play or punt scenario becoming a mute point when a missed assignment had a Sandcrab (Tony Hensley) with no-one in his area code for a catch and run for 50 yards and a tied score.
Hensley was so fast that if you blinked then you missed 10 or more yards of his run.
That adage. ’Speed Kills’ was evident on this night as Hensley accounted for 72% of the Sandcrabs offense.
Down 6 points coming out of the halftime break that still had the Hawks with a legit chance of mounting one of their 2nd half offensive juggernaut was soon dashed when on Calhoun’s 2nd play saw (as long as you didn’t blink) a 73 yard run for Hensley and a quick 14 point deficit, 21-7.
Canyon Lake still had some fight after a Sandcrab lost fumble and then a wrecking ball catch and run by Tight-End Griffen Williams for 28 yards gave CL a one yard plunge for Hunter Anderson to draw back to an 8 point chance for more football.
These Sandcrabs would answer with a 40 yard run by Tony (don’t blink) Hensley that was followed by a successful onside kick that would bury CL’s hopes for a longer run in the post-season.
A good run that showcased a Canyon Lake District 13-4A Division I title and garnering a 7 game winning streak.
But the, don’t blink speed, coming from Hensley was a sight to behold. (Unless you have a blinking problem).
Thanks Hawks!!
