Canyon Lake’s Gold Freshman finished their season just shy of a win when the Canyon Cougars were able to score the winning touchdown with 30 seconds left on the clock, 12-14.

                      Let’s Go Hawks!!

These Cougars first score was a response to a CL team that waltzed down the field for 66 yards taking 10 plays and score with 5 minutes remaining to start the game, 6-0.

Canyon’s first score was more like break-dancing after having to convert two 3rd and 4th downs in order to cross the goal line.

These Cougars could only amass 6 running plays that reached 6 yards or more as this Hawk team certainly controlled the trenches. Two of those snaps was closing out the half with CL Gold in a prevent defense.

Gram Simpson led the rushing brigade in finishing with 78 yards and Tristan Hallman was a close 2nd finishing with 68 yards on the ground.

Canyon had a slew of players compared to the Hawks and last season the Gold team won the District Championship against many of these same players.

The difference was winning against two middle schools that feed Canyon HS compared to MVMS almost winning against the equivalent of putting those two middle schools together that were beaten by this Gold team.

                              Go Hawks!!

A lead until the last 30 seconds needing to traverse 24 yards after a bad snap for the Hawk’s punting team allowing that short field.

A great year of learning as this team will prepare for a better result for next year as a Junior Varsity crew with high hopes as these two Hawk Freshman teams (Green & Gold) continue to mature into a team that can hold their own.

You’re PURE GOLD HAWKS!!

The Resporter’s Twitter & Instagram has interviews with:

Cayden Toon: who was one of many Hawk lineman who lived in the Cougars back-field.
Maison Housley: another Hawk lineman with those same accolades as Mr. Toon.
Josh Rowe: Linebacker who had a highlight sack acting as a Gardner
