Hawk Baseball & Softball District 27-4A Standings
The first round of Baseball in district play has played out showing one school that has separated from the rest of the pack (sorry Davenport).
Every other team is tied for 2nd-3rd-4th-5th-6th place…in other words a dog fight for those remaining 3 playoff positions.
Your Hawks were finally able to break their district losing streak and rebound with two wins in last week’s battles.
A slugfest in Tuesday’s win over the Texans, 17-11 when Griffen Williams was able to have a 5 hit night with 3 of those leaving the ball park with some degree of authority.
That resulted being walked 3 times in CL’s next win over Bandera on Friday night.
Now District 27-4A will have each school with two consecutive games away and at home for the next 5 weeks.
That is when all the dust will settle showing the top 4 teams with a ticket for post-season.
Hunter Anderson was tabbed the starter in that Friday contest with the Bulldogs due to CL using both #1 & #2 starters using up their pitch-count in that win against Wimberley. A deep pitching staff helped in that win.
John Gulley was instrumental securing the most saves in a year (4) as well as all-time in that victory.
Those 4 saves number is low due to CL’s inability to rack up enough wins that this stat would be used hence there was a total of 9 Canyon Lake saves before Coach Victor Escamilla arrived. Or one save per year when, The Lake, started playing baseball in 2009.
These past 6 seasons (Escamilla’s tenure) Canyon Lake has racked up 20 saves.
The Hawk Softball team is in the same shape as Baseball was last week at this time standing with an 0-3 district ledger. The Lake has a game in Bandera on Tuesday and them will finish with a home game when Davenport comes to the Hawk Nest this Friday.
On Friday the first round of games will be completed and another chance to face all the schools once more.
Another situation is brewing with Boerne & Fredericksburg on top of district play (3-0) with the rest of the schools sporting a 1-2 record and that will have those teams fighting for those last two spots for a post-season berth.
Softball will need a, bounce back sweep, this week or face a next to impossible chance of pulling off a playoff scenario.
Let’s GO HAWKS!!
