Hunter Anderson Signs to Play Baseball at Stephen F. Austin

Hunter Anderson signing for his next stop after Canyon Lake to SFA!

Canyon Lake has a record breaking Senior class that continues adding students in sports going to college. Hunter Anderson signed his letter of intent to play baseball for his next chapter at Stephen F Austin and will join many other Hawks.

The Lumberjacks are a D-I program making this the 2nd Hawk to make this realm of college ball following Alencia Lentz who signed back in the Fall to continue her pole-vaulting career at Baylor.

Anderson has made his living at CL playing football & baseball and both sports have won a district title during these past two seasons.

When asked for a funny story, LJ Anderson (Dad) was quick with his second response. We were at the beach when Hunter had just got his driver’s license and while he was driving nearby and I asked Hunter to be careful because my truck was close by….Hunter responded, ‘Sure Dad I got this!!’ Then proceeded to brush all the way down the side of my truck!

Words are important and Dad should have noted that the phrase, “I got this!” Really meant Hunter saw this as a chance to catch that screamer line drive to the outfield and, ‘I got this’ meant that truck was his and it would not be missed.

Mom (Jennifer) when asked her thoughts on Hunter replied, “I’m excited!! I went to SFA and my sister lives there so when we go there we will not have stay in any hotels…Hunter had fun when he visited there and fit in well with the players. But I am sad since the boys (Chase & Hunter) will be separate for the first time going to different schools.”

Hunter split time with JV and Varsity as a Freshman which happened to be the Wuhan Virus year that stopped a good team before district got started that had a, 12-2 record.

Since that first campaign, Hunter has been a non-stop player in the outfield, first base, and pitcher.

A decent .356 batting average (at this writing) which ranks as the 6th best in Hawk history. On the mound Hunter sports a 2.12 era and has won 7 games and is tied all-time with 3 saves. He has struck out 64 batters during his 59 innings of work.

His trifecta on defense was displayed in an earlier game this year against El Paso Franklin when he sprinted for what would have been a Texas Leaguer and dove for the catch that saved a run and kept that potential big inning in check.

Of course, in school Hunter is a top notch student and will be giving a speech from the podium when graduation comes calling.

When asked bout his decision on SFA, “I have a lot of family that lives there and my Mom went to school there.”

“Their Head Coach (Johnny Cardenas) really sealed the deal,” Hunter remembered. “He’s personable and he has Major Leagues experience.”

On where the Lumberjacks are looking for Hunter to play? “Outfield.” On what will be Hunter’s major? “Finance!”

Thoughts on his stay at Canyon Lake? “It means everything…where we are, between San Antonio and Austin. and the Coaches care for you not just for your success.”

On his twin brother, Chase? “He’s the reason and the soul key for what I do….I have had a built-in Best Friend!”

Now this season will continue before that next stage in life kicks off and with some unfinished business for the Hawk Nation having a chance to see this Hawk baseball team continue their trek to making another playoff and paving a road for future players to make their mark.

Know that Success is measured in different areas and that overall goal is being a staple in life that other people can say that you are a, built-in best friend!

Way to Go Hunter!!
